: Chevelle prices in the 80's??
John69SSChevelle Nov 12th, 04, 11:11 PM Anyone remember what Chevelles were selling for in the 80's? I bought a 69 SS with a/c 350 hp th400, monaco orange, posi, buckets for 1500.00 in 1979. What do you think that car would have sold for in 1989 California?
70SS Nov 13th, 04, 10:01 AM I bought my 70 LS5 for 400.00 in 1982. Drove down to mobile alabama from detroit when I was 17 and drove around until I found one. My friends and I brought back another 70 SS for 400.00 and a 65 SS w/original paint for 650.00. We all still have them in our garages. smile.gif
BowtieAaron Nov 13th, 04, 10:48 AM a guy who lives up the road from me, says he bought his 70 SS396 in 71 for 500.00. it was hit in the front end, and needed a bumper, and fender. then the car was painted 66 GTO red. and its still sits the same way, in his garage. its an all origional 396, 4spd SS car. and super nice it is.
in the 80's, my dad picked up a 71/72 velle for 500.00, had a m22, and a 350 4bbl. but he says it was a dog, had like 2.56 gears in it, and was nothing special but fun to drive. so yeah in the 80's, u could probably buy a real nice velle for like 2k.

70isfine Nov 13th, 04, 11:02 AM I don't know.I paid $4000 for my 70 malibu in 86. I probably paid to much but it was very clean and fast! Considering i racked over 100,000 miles on it as a daily driver and i still own it today i guess it was a good buy. After i bought it i do remember seeing a lot of clean 71 and 72's in the $1200 range, they were like the old lady daily drivers, but thats the ones you would want. ;)
17Again Nov 13th, 04, 8:17 PM I bought my 71 Chevelle for $300 in '86. Bone stock 350/th350 malibu. Gold with black vinyl top, saddle interior. Blew the motor in 87 and sold it for $400, I nearly cried when the buyer towed it away. I did cry when I saw it on the road the next day with a fresh motor dropped in it.

John69SSChevelle Nov 13th, 04, 10:41 PM Ok, that makes me feel a bit better. You know, the one you let get away.
I sold that car for 3800.00 after a fresh paint job in 1989.
Now I see that car for sale for 40k or more.
Kinda makes me want to cry, you know?
But the new one I have now, I'll keep this one once she's done....
Chief Nov 15th, 04, 7:05 AM In 1979 I was stationed with a guy in Port Canaveral, Florida that had a '69 SS396, 4-speed car. Original owner, meticulous upkeep. Had it repainted because it had faded a little in the Arizona sun while he was stationed in Alaska. I offered him $2500 cash and he turned it down. Six months later he comes driving in the gate in a brand new 1980 CITATION.
HE TRADED THE FRIGGIN '69 IN AND GOT A GRAND FOR IT.
I was ticked to say the least. I think I even cried.. :(
My "the one that got away story".

YenkoChevelle69 Nov 15th, 04, 10:18 AM I paid 1200 bucks for my Monaco Orange Super sport in January of this year.
Neuman Nov 15th, 04, 3:35 PM I purchased my numbers matching 69 SS-396 L35, M-20, excellent condition, in march, 1987 for $5,500.
1966_L78 Nov 15th, 04, 4:10 PM In 1983 I bought a 66 Malibu, straight body, faded Lemonwood Yellow paint, California rust free, factory buckets/console (Powerglide), decent interior and a transplanted 307 2-barrel stocker (in place of the 283): $800
In 1985, 1966 SS hardtop, replacement 327 (283?) (with original BB parts in the trunk), 4-speed, guages, tach, racing buckets (factory console car), rust free California car, nice body with older repaint (originally Marina Blue), 3.73 posi, Torque Thrusts: $1200.
1986, sold my cloned SS (first car above, Yellow Malibu, painted dark blue) for $2100 with small block (now a 350) and wrecked front end... Was going to be offered $3500 (guy saw it before it was wrecked), and I had an estimate for $1400 to repair, took that off the price... I also got like $3200 from the insurance company (gave them the highest estimate, gave the buyer the lowest)- $5300! Went immediately to buy the below listed Malibu convertible...
In 1988, 1966 Malibu Convertible, SS hood, rally wheels, decent body (minor dings and some rust in the cowl), $3000...
Had several 1966 El Caminos including a original BB car. Bought one for $100, prompted sold the guages for $300, then a guy happened to stop by to talk about a previous El Camino I had sold. Floors were rusty, so I offered the shell for a few hundred... very happy
around 1986-1988, a guy I know traded an 80s Chrysler K-car (I recall a Town & Country- not a van) for a one-owner 1966 SS Convertible. Matching numbers, original everything, factory red paint (but repainted Lemonwood yellow before he got it... The owners were elderly and wanted something comfortable and new. Only problem with that car (for me) was it was a 325 HP, benchseat, column-shifted powerglide... But a real SS convert... I think the K-car cost him like $1200...
1990, bought a very nice 1966 El Camino, factory 396 (matching numbers), new paint, straight body, rust-free. Race car (not cut up). Factory A/C (removed). TH400, full-manual with 3800 RPM stall speed, ~$3500... Fun car.
Bunch more that got away...
Tom's 68 Nov 15th, 04, 5:16 PM bought my first 69 ss 396 350 horse m21 373 posi buckets gauges rear defogger map light 28k miles
from a friend whose dad had it from new and when he died in 82 he left it to my friend who was going into the navy
sold it to me for $800
had the car until 90 when someone stole it and rolled it
they never caught the theif
I cried
then three weeks later was when someone gave (yes I said gave) me my 68 convertable
I still miss that ss cause it was my friends dads car so it was sentamental but the convertable was definatly good medicine for the pain
John69SSChevelle Nov 17th, 04, 11:40 PM It's just amazing how much these cars have gone up in price. I paid 10k for the one I have now last year. It needs a lot of work, probably another 10k, doing the work myself. But it's a labor of love, isn't it??
dabuickman Nov 20th, 04, 12:40 AM in 87 i sold my black 72 ss small block car for $5500. the first guy that seen it bought it. i shouldve asked for more but my 87 GN was calling my name. its still in my garage today.
my twin bro had a midnight blue 66 chevy 2, 327 4 sp. we sold it in 88 or 89 for $7500
the real pi$$er is my brother isnt into cars anymore and i still see his car around but i have never seen my 72 since.
2k3Chevelle468 Nov 20th, 04, 11:05 PM In 1983 I bought my first car. It was a blue 1971 chevelle. I paid $180.00 for it. It needed a new door and trunk lid. I bought a parts car for $35.00. That's a total of $215.00.
