I just finished repairing all the "bodywork" done by the previous owner. Now what i found underneath was a whole lotta rust. So i was wondering should i go in there with the grinder and chop the rusted part of the quarter off and get a quarter panel patch. And i also have a fender on the passengers side that is all good exept for a big hole at the bottom..... not good. Should i buy a Fender Patch For This?? or weld something in there and bondo it smooth. PS im on a low budget since im only 15. I dont have too much money too work with. About 330 Canadian

If you are going to do it yourself, then a patch panel on the fender would work. They are fairly inexpensive. If a shop works on it, you will have the price of a replacement fender in the labor pretty fast. And the aftermarket fenders are said to be quite good. I will know in a few weeks if this is true.
As I hear, the half quarter pannel is not easy to work with. But on a budget, you may have to settle. It will be good practice. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

You can get a patch panel for both areas. If you can work with bondo you can really make an inexpensive repair. All you need is a metal cutting blade in your skill saw and a mig welder. Don't let any body tell you butt welding is easy. The welder will blow right through most cheap patch panels if you weld on the edge. Its best to overlap the patches. If you put the patch on top make sure to cut it with a metal cutting wheel of some sort. If you put it underneath, you'll need less bondo in most cases, especially if your rust hole is small. If its a huge patch it doesn't matter so much which is on top.
They have air crimpers too. That way the patch is level with the surounding metal.
It distorts curvy metal though.
My first car when I was 16 was a 72 too.
