: 70 headlamp bucket question

I am getting ready to order new headlamp buckets and hardware, as my car came with none. My question is this. In the three parts catalogs I have they list all the buckets except one. The right outer. Can you use one of the other buckets as a substitute?

I have looked in the archives and not found one instance of anyone having this problem. Is everyone just substituting one of the others?

If someone knows the answer to this problem, please help me out here.

Thanks,
Billy

Billy, the outer and inner should be the same on each side. Left and right are different. I was at my friends today and he has a used set for sale. Email me if interested

the two left are the same and the 2 right are the same. the inners and outers are interchangable. just not left to right. the way you tell left from right is the access openings for adjusting the headlight screws.

Thanks a million guy's. That is what I was hoping for. graemlins/hurray.gif The thing that threw me off track was that in the parts catalogs I have here and the ones I viewed on-line all only offer three of the four. It leads you to believe that there is something different about the one they do not offer. I even called OPG and Ground UP and was told that nobody was making the "outer right". Neither could tell me what made this one different.

You would think they could make it a little easier and just offer "lefts" and "rights".

Once again you guys saved the day. This had me really worried. Now me and the "little woman" can cruise after dark.

Thanks for all your help,
Billy

you know, i'm going to take a better look at this. and see what the difference really is, i looked in several sources and they do list them as different part numbers. i might have a set for sale if intrested.

they ar different. what makes them different is the notches that match up with the head light glass. the glas bulbs have glass keying features to keep you from putting the high beam bulb in the low beam bucket and visa-versa. it looks like you could overcome this interference by just cutting the bucket notch to eccept the bucket you want.

Billy, 'FO' is correct. I just picked up mine from the powder coater (they were there when I first replied). Each one is stamped with a different letter - 'A', 'B' 'C' and 'D'.
You have to look closely to see the difference between inner and outer. One of the four notches is at a different postition. Sorry for the earlier incorrect response.

Here is a picture of the 'A' and 'B' buckets.

You can see the notch near the 9 o'clock position on the left is slightly different from the one on the right. Other than that notch, A & B are the same.

Yep, they are different. I couldnt find one of them for mine so I cut one notch in one useing the old one as a template. Very easy even if its not correct, but NO ONE will ever see it.

they are all different, if you look at them they are marked a,b,c,d on one of the tabs. I don't think they are interchangeable.
