: Anyone here wear a black helmet?
Slowpoke70 Jun 15th, 06, 12:43 AM I'm ready to order a helmet even though my track doesn't require me to wear one, yet. Some of my close friends have requested that I weare one, and I've also decided I like my head the way it is. Plus, I plan on getting under the 8.5 sec limit (1/8th track) or the 13.99 limit (1/4) within the next year and a half.
I've narrowed it down to the G-Force Pro Force 1 Snell SA2005 but I can't decide between white or black. The black looks sweet, but I don't know how much the color will affect the temperature under the helmet. Helmets are pretty "hot" regardless, at least my football ones were. How much does color change the temps? I'm in SoCal so the temp gets well into the 100s in July/August.
Any thoughts?
Motorhead62 Jun 15th, 06, 12:57 AM I have a G-Force black helmet that I bought from Jegs for about $100 or so. I like it, it has a cool tinted visor.
sinned Jun 15th, 06, 1:04 AM I wear a black helmet; Buttonwillow hits 110* easy and I don't notice any added heat even after a 10 minute run.
chevguy65 Jun 15th, 06, 4:20 AM I wear a black helmet and think of it this way, it's only on for about 13 sec's at a time......actually longer but not enough to make you pass out from the heat.
Slowpoke70 Jun 15th, 06, 6:17 AM I ordered it in black, thanks guys! Now hopefully it'll fit, I have a rather large noggin and I really hope the XXL fits or I'll be SOL. If its the same size as an XXL football helmet, it should work.

Someone else with a bucket head! I have a heck of a time finding headwear that fits.

Funny thing is I had a chrome helmet back when I used to skateboard in HS. Chome dome, lol.
BillsCamino Jun 15th, 06, 4:58 PM I prefer a white helmet...sure does seem cooler.
ChevelleRob Jun 15th, 06, 8:28 PM I had white and everyone said i looked like Kazoo, or a stormtrooper, go with black, shows less dirt too.
bigjimzlll Jun 15th, 06, 8:51 PM I wish you luck with the XXL helmet...I almost called the paramedics when I couldn't get it off my melon....All my friends had a god laugh at my expence though

~JM~ Jun 16th, 06, 12:09 AM Black only gets hotter if the sun is shining on it.
I wore a black helmet in Arizona. It was hot on a long ride. Open the vents & it will cool off.

greg_moreira Jun 16th, 06, 1:17 AM That is true. Black gets hotter cause it dont reflect light like bright colors. If you look at a picture of the earth.....the water shows up the best cause it reflects light(its bright). The dark terrain dont reflect as well But if it aint in the sun, than it aint a problem. It wont absorb heat all on its own, it will absorb heat from the light. So unless you got a sunroof, there shouldnt be enough light shining on it for it to actually absorb enough heat from the light to get to you. In other words....inside the car or in the shade....a black helmet should be just as good as a white one.
Removed Jun 16th, 06, 6:27 AM You can also paint it any color you want. I have done several of mine that way to match my bikes. It is easy to do. Add some graphics.
