15x10 wheel with 5.5" backspacing, should be able to get a 30x9x15 slick under it with no trimming, any wider and you're gonna have to trim the outer lip, should be fine on the inside.

Years ago I had a 28"x 10" Goodyear slick with a 15"x8" wheel 4.5" back spacing. They had a lot of room all around without any triming. I would think a 29" X 10 would fit on a 8" wheel. But depending on the mph of the car the rocker panel may be close when the tire grows. Tom

Super nice car, Tom. Runs like a SOB, too.

My friend had the 10.5X30's goodyears on a 68 with a 15x8 wheel. The only thing I don't know is that the car had ladder bars. Ladder bars will take out the body roll to help with clearance. If it was a stock suspension the body roll might have caused a rub.

I have 29 X 11.5 X 15 Hoosier quick time pros on my '69. 15 x 8 wheel with 4.5 backspacing. I think a 10" wheel would work better. I did trim the fender lip on the drivers side. I've also ran BFG 295/65/15 drag radials. I will get an occasional drag going over uneven ground.

The 10.5W x 28" E.T. Drag on a Alumistar with 5.5" backspacing is the best tire and wheel combination we've tried on my son's Chevelle. The best 60' is 1.29 but to date it's still killing Turbo 400 sprags, even the super ones with careful burnout procedures. I guess it's expensive powerglide time. 8.60 @ 163 MPH without second gear. IMAKEHP has a good combination and has gone nearly as fast.

You can run a 30x10.5 radial slick on an 8 inch rim, but you would be better off with a 9 inch tire on that 8" rim. Think contact patch and what rubber is actually in contact and working on the track. Anything over 9" tread needs a 10" rim to work properly. Call Hoosier and ask.

Call rossler we have stuck over 2400hp and never had a problem he can probably take care of that were at 3200lbs. Sean

If you decide to use the 10.5-S x 28"
tire it will not require any trimming of the outer fenderwell lip with 5.5" backspacing as Bob West said. We do have a 9" Ford rearend and i think it is 1/2" wider than a twelve bolt if memory serves me correctly.

you can fit that tire on your 69 chevelle no problem with a 15x10 inch wheel with 5.5 inches back spacing and you should not hit that fender lip on launch but i wont promise that you wont hear some rubbing around say a hard corner when your sidewall flexe,s i had a 10 inch on my 69 camaro with only 4.75 bs and they only rubbed on hard corners or with 4 adults in the car. i have 10.5 on my 70 chevelle with 5.5 and i have tons of room BUT they are a 245 sidewall on a 17 inch rim and judging from my left over clerance,s i could drop a 10.5 tire in a 29x11.5 on a 15 inch rim and it would clear just fine.

I run two different sets tires / wheels.

The wheels are Weld Draglites 15x10 with a 5.5" BS. Most of the time I drive around with 29"x12.5" M/T Sportsman Pros. The other set I use are 29.3"x11.5" Hoosier Quick Time Pros. This is on a 71 Chevelle. The wheel well lip has been trimmed "slightly", stock rear springs and shocks.

I sometimes have a "very slight" rubbing on the inner sidewall of the tire only (with both sets of tires) when turning and going up a little incline (at the same time).

Does anybody know if a BFG Drag Radial or a M/T Drag Radial in a 295/65/15 mounted on a 10" (with 5.5" bs) will fit a 68-72 without any major problems?

I have heard that they will work on an 8" rim, but not with a 10".

I have a brand new set of BFG Drag Radials, 295/65/15. They are actually larger in diameter than a 10.5x30 Hoosier radial slick. Roll out / diameter of the Hooiser is 92.5 inches and the BFG's are about 2 inches more...............no go on my 69. Section width is not a problem, diameter of the tire is the rub.

Fowl69, I have true 29.5"x 10.5" "s" M/Ton 12" wheels with 6" BS on the rear. Please note this will not fit without modification! The fronts are 27.5" M/T on 3.5" Aluma stars. Tom

When I had the 12 bolt in it I ran 29.5"x 10.5" w tires and 10" wheels with 5 5/8" BS Monoque wheels. This also took a lot of work to get them to fit. Like machining breaks, c-clip eliminators and moving brake caliper brackets to the rear end tube.

Thanks guys for the kind words about my car. Tom
