I'm looking for a kit in ss or information regarding the totals and types of fastners use for a 65'. Interior fastners also. I would like to start my assembly using stainless but don't want to make a hundred trips to the hardware store. Can someone help? Thanks, Drew

Drew, You have to be careful with Stainless bolts, they can be brittle and may not be a good choice for body bolts. On the other hand, there is a vendor that usually is at Carlisle that sells stainless that will work, but it may be too late for that now and I don't remember the name. You might try an internet search, Simply Stainless comes to mind. I am sure that others will be along with some more ideas.

Stainless steel for body bolts or anything that deals with suspension should not be used. Stainless just doesnt have the strength needed to hold up to the pressures. But on the other hand stainless will work great on bolting together a fender or door. I bought a kit from totally stainless every nut and bolt front to rear bumper cost around 220 bucks.

I am going to use stainless bolts for my supension along with the rest of my 70 Velle, get a Totally Stainless catalog and they now sell grade 8 equivalent stainless, and they specify it is good to use for the suspension. The only downside is it can become quite pricey.

Thanks for the help. I called Totally Stainless and ordered their catalog.
Hey sevt_chevelle, did your kit come clearly marked for what goes where? Otherwise I guess it would be a nightmare to figure that out if they were not identified.
Thanks, Drew

Every bolt was put together in a labeled bag. Like the bolts for the doors were labeled doors, grille and so on. The guessing what bolt went where was not a factor, very nice stuff. Just one tip use some old bolts to preassemble the car-if you are going to check the fit of everything then take it apart again. Use the stainless for the final assembly of the car, I found that some of the bolt heads were starting to round off when I use using them for preassembly. Just keep in my mind that I was running these bolts with a air rachet for what seemed like a few hundred times checking the fit of parts and making adjustments.
