My '70 Malibu leaks water into the trunk everytime it rains, or when I wash the car. I replaced the trunk weatherstripping and applied clear silicone around the chrome trim where it meets the glass. (This was stupid because now if I need to remove the trim it will be stuck on.) graemlins/clonk.gif So neither of these things worked. The water seems to be coming in at the upper corners of the trunk. A friend said it is probably the glass gasket but I am not sure. By the way, the car has a vinyl top. Any advise offered would be extremely appreciated. This problem is really annoying! Thanks, and God bless.

Get in the trunk (someone standing outside with the keys!!)Close the lid, look for light,or get a flashlight and have them spray some water on the trunk area and see where its commin in at.
Go from there.

I also have a 70 with a vinyl top. I hate to say this, and I hope this is not your problem, but once i removed the vinyl top and molding, the window lip where the quarter panel wraps around and meets the rear deck filler panel....was gone. The is a very common thing since the parts car I bought (non vinyl top) was also rusted through. Water just sits there and eats away. Good luck.

I thought mine had the dreaded Chevrolet rust around the back glass also, after getting it to the body shop,it looks like brand new under the chrome, new trunk seal and still leaks,I'm guessing the trunk seal needs a little tweaking. When I get my car back,I'll lock the youngest in there to see if he can see daylight,lol...might leave him in there, just to wipe it up as it leaks :D actually thats a good idea, thanks graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Just a thought,is the trunk seal installed right.I put one on my 66 couple of years ago and thought it was in right only to have the trunk leak several times  After looking at several other 66's I noticed mine was in backwards, turned it around and gues what---no leaks now

hey guys; i am in the process of restoring my ' 70 chevelle.i'm fairly new to the site, but my car has a vinyl top and found that after i washed the car, there was water leaking in through the holes that were drilled through the roof for the chrome trim that surrounds the bottom of the roof line.i got inside the trunk with a flashlight and saw the water weeping through those holes.i think that the speed nuts or whatever type of nuts hold the trim on,eventually leak.not sure how to fix the problem efficiently.if anyone has any tips,i would love to hear them. if i'm lucky,i won't find out later that there are other areas with holes. thanks. dave
