I'm trying to get some feedback .. from anyone that has replaced their A6 compressor, with a Sanden, Seltec, or ....? While, doing my homework, I have not yet found a compressor, with tab mounts,...having a displacement as large as an A6's 12.6 cubic inches. ... and able to match it's btu pumping capacity. The Seltec I'm considering is only 9.3 cu. in. Vehicle will still be maintaining the factory POA/TXV/Evaporator/R-12 design.

I've heard that undersizing a compressor ..will result in a loss of cooling, at idle. That's not acceptable to me, with a hot Texas summer approaching. I've gotten "bits and pieces" of information from "the recommended A/C Forum" web-site, but not from anyone who's retro'd a newer/ lighter compressor, into an otherwise OEM set-up. I do have a new A6 which I can use. Since, I'll be replacing the hoses and TXV, now would be the time to retrofit a newer compressor, ... if I can find one that matches an A6's ability to move refrigerant.

Appreciate all comments

I 'm having a shop in southern california restore the system in my 72 chevelle, the best info I've come up with is the A6 compress. may look big and ugly but nothing has the cooling cap. to match it. According to these guys who have been in business since the 60's, the evaporator cap. in the 68-72 chevy's is far superior than any aftermarket replacement unit. If you change the compressor size without changing evap.unit you proably won't be happy with the system. I'm using new A6 & orig. evap but converting rest of system to 134 freon. My car should be done in a week, "I Hope" I'll post the results.
