I am currently looking to buy a chevelle as I am selling all of my other chevy's. However I am stuck. I like the front end of a 1970 chevelle but do not like the rear bumper. I like the rear bumper of a 71-72 but do not like the front end. So my question is can I use a 71-72 rear bumbper on a 1970 chevelle or can I use a 1970 chevelle front end on a 71-72 chevelle.

I think there are a few people on the site that have done what you want. I don't know about the 71-2 rear bumper on the 70, but I have seen some guys with a 70 front clip on a 71-2. I am not 100% sure what you need, but it is possible.

Hey man, you can do whatever you want, just know that there are "knit-pickers" out there that'll try to prove their point about how "wrong" your car is. It's your car, and your happiness, if you want a 71-72 bumper of a 70 'Velle, or a 70 front clip on a 71-72 'Velle, then by all means, go for it. It's your car, right? :thumbsup: :D

If you run a 71/2 bumper on a 70 you will also need the lower valance to go along with it. In order to run a 70 front end you will need the fenders, radiator support, grille, fender extensions & bumper. Basically the whole front clip (other than the hood) I probally missed something but you get the idea.

I like my 70 the way it is but I can remember when I used to cruize around in my uncles 71 and I saw a 70 I always remarked that if I ever had a 70 I would change the rear bumper to the 71/2 style, He thought I was crazy. Now that I have a 70 I like it the way it is but I think Chevy should have swithched the rear on the 70 to 71/2 & vise versa.

Would be easier & cheaper to do the bumper swap than the clip swap.

I always thought the dash vents make the dash look like the '70 rear bumper with the square vents matching the square lights. For that reason I think the 70 bumper matches. Why didn't they change the vents to round when they changed the tail lights in '71.

If you haven't noticed I have a slight case of OCD and like things to match.

I almost swapped my 68 taillights out and put in 69 taillights.Don't know how many people would actually pick up on it, but I know I would catch hell from someone.
