Im pulling the pressed studs and installing screw in studs in a pair of vortecs. I orderd arp's 190,000psi studs but now Im reading some studs require guide plates to be used. Since I have self alinging rockers I don't want to buy new rockers to use with guide plates. Anyone know for sure?

When using self aligning rockers on Vortecs, I'll install the shoulderless rocker studs which don't require rocker boss machining or guide plates. I've done this on about 5 or 6 sets of heads that were used in moderate performance applications with no issues.

bored,
If you are going to use the self aligning rockers, the you do NOT need guide plates. The only problem you will run into using the ARP studs, or any others that have a hex portion to tighten them with, is that unless you mill down the rocker bosses, the rocker arm will more than likely hit on the hex portion and the stud will be too tall.
