I just picked up another 68 SS Grille for my car last weekend at a swap meet. The grille is in good condition, but I'd like to clean it up and re-paint the center black section. Will SEM Trim Black be a good product to use? I was told to use it as the paint for the lower black body color also. Not crazy about using a spray can to paint the lower rocker area, but I don't know where to get a semi-gloss black paint in a quart can. Any ideas or color codes?

All the larger auto paint companys will have a flattener you can add to a qt. of black to make it semi-gloss. Most will mix it for you. Then you will want to reduce it and add the hardener. Then you know it will hold up on the grill and rockers. even if you drive it in bad weather..

Thanks for the info. I like your car, very nice. What color is it? Mine is Fathom Blue, but originally was Island Teal Metallic. Do you think the Trim Black paint would be OK to use on the grille, at least? I have a couple of cans to use up, but I don't want it to start flaking off or anything. I haven't used it before and I can't return it, and it also appears to be the same color.

I tried several different spray can paints on my '68 grille and non of them stayed on, always chipping. I did discover a big black magic marker is good for touchups!
