I just starting driving my chevelle this weekend. As I was backing the car into the driveway, the radiator top hose popped off. I thought I had the clamp pretty tight. Is there a good method to make sure this doesn't ever happen again? Would it help if I removed the paint that is around the inlet? 2 hose clamps? This is the second time it has happend, luckily both times were in my garage. Well, not so lucky for the garage, I guess.

are you running a stock water neck? I have heard of this happening with chrome water necks. If your clamping to a painted surface then I would strip the paint off that area where the hose connects.

Jeremy, check the threads on your hose clamp as they could be stripped enough to seem tight then slowly release.

well even if the hose was too big a diameter for the radiator, the clamp should of held it on. At the garage i work at, i put grease in the inside of a hose so they slide on easy, but they have never popped off, and they have grease all over them in there!

problems the clamp, a new clamp is like 95 cents, get one, and tighten her up

webfoot,

maybe a broken motor mount?
causing the motor to lift?

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will remove the paint from the outlet and get a new clamp.
