: Selling out, need advice
Steve442 May 21st, 03, 8:55 PM Hello folks,
A change in life plan has made it impossible for me to complete my project car.
I have a 71 Olds 442. I have done the frame off thing, and have painted the entire frame with POR 15. I have replaced all the bushings with PST poly graphite, 4 link is PSC boxed, all new springs 1 inch lowered, all new shocks KYB gas adjust, new lines fuel and brakes. I also have a new windshield in the box.
I have rebuilt the trunk lip and replaced the driver side quarter panel and trunk extension. I have also collected a large amount of other pieces new and used over the years.
I have run out of time, money and intrest to finish the project.
My question is ... can i get $1,500 for the car and ALL the junk i have collected? There is at least that much in the parts. I have 2 dashes, extra windows and moldings, the center console and alot of other stuff i am sure i have forgotten about. I need to get this outa my garage befor the wife burns it smile.gif Please help, and thank you for your time in advance.
Steve
72SSAbody May 22nd, 03, 2:02 AM Steve,
Sorry for having to let go of the project. I would have to see what state of disassebled the car is in to give you my estimate of what you could get out of it.
Are you thinking of selling it in just one sweep? Or are you thinking of selling off bits and pieced here and there?
Joe

Steve442 May 22nd, 03, 7:58 PM I want to sell it all in one sweep. I have a digital camera and can send pics with ease. The front clip is off at the moment, and the back half of the body is in place. I need to finish welding up the rear quarter panel. I also have the door hinge detent kit. However, I never did find the spring tool to rebuild the hinges.
I also forgot that I had the rear bumper redone by tri-city. It just arrived today, and looks realy realy good.

chev64 May 23rd, 03, 8:37 AM Sorry to hear that Steve, I have decided the same thing earlier in the year with my 64 SS conv. A member of the club I belong to has agreed to adopt it and finish it someday. Are you registered over at www.442.com (http://www.442.com) ? They are not taking any new members at this time.
Scott T. May 23rd, 03, 6:34 PM do you have the engine and trans for the car? How complete is the rest of the car(ie.. ext trim and interior)?
Steve442 May 24th, 03, 9:04 AM Here is a list. It is as moplete as I can make it with out going int o the garage and cataloging all the junk i have back there smile.gif
Drive train was just a TH - 350 and the 455. They are not the original ones to the car. I checked the numbers when I first started the project. It is a posi rear that I had taken out of a 72 cutlass supreme. I am not sure on the gear ratio. I was just going to change it to 3:73, but never got that far. I have all the interior pieces. Seats and all need restoring. It was a typical old car left in the back of a barn. Needs new interior door panels, sail panels, and head liner. I have 2 sets of rear seats though. The car did not have the OAI hood. It is just the basic 442 hood with the chromed louvers. I have the hood. It is in good shape and 2 sets of louvers.
Wheels that are on it atm are from a 1972 Cutlass. They are 14 inch and I have all of the center caps and beauty rings. I also have a second set of rims that are more like the originals, but they are 15 inch. Have 2 sets of center caps for the older style rims and all but one of the beauty rings.
the rusted out areas around the front windshield area were cut out and I welded in new steel. The previous owner cut the floor pan open to the tranny. I have welded over that and welded another dog house over the old one.
Have:
new stone guards on the brakes
new fuel and fuel return lines, new brake lines, does not have the brake lines run out to the wheels yet. Only have the line that runs front to rear of the car.
have the old master cylinder and 2 power break boosters. I think I have 2 of them back there anyway.
new center link and tie rods and ball joints.
rebuilt the heater box with new foams on the door flaps inside and new heater core.
windshield: front and rear
Moldings: have all of them and a few extra
have all of the numbers for fenders and trunk. It did not have the "Oldsmobile" script on the trunk when I bought it.
new stone guard for center grill- still in box
door hinge detent kit
extra door and door glass
extra rear wing window glass
extra steering column
gas tank
hood hinges 2 sets of them (if I remember right)
front and rear bumper- rear bumper just rechromed
455 block and heads - disassembled and greased down to keep it safe. also have the crank but it will need turning and probley re-heat treated.
350 olds motor assembled
2 dashes
1 center console and shifter-from a 72 cutlass but look just like the 442 one.
Have both fenders, but they need some help.
and like a said probley have more stuff that I forgot about.
That's all I can think of atm.
70mousejob May 24th, 03, 10:26 AM Man I wish you lived closer, I'd be all over it!!!
