: Few Cowl Induction questions. Thanks...

I am hooking up the "flapper" so that it works, I am not installing the electric solenoid or the air cleaner. Just basically want the door to move. I have some questions.

(1) What direction does the check valve go in relation to the vacuum?

(2) Is there to be some sort of special bolt that hooks the flapper to the actuator? I think I can use a .250 shoulder bolt but it will not have any type of bushing in it.

(3) Where does the vacuum line hook to on the motor? I was thinking of T'ing it into the line that runs to the trans (350 turbo)

(4) There are some small threaded holes in the hinges that bolt to the hood, Looks like for a stop bolt to adjust the height of the door when closed, What do these look like?

Thanks for any and all replies.

1. gold part of the check valve goes toward motor

2. I can't remember what type of bolt I used

3. The vacuum line goes into a fitting that is screwed into the rear of the intake manifold. Depending on what options the car has the fitting may have more than 1 port (automatic trans, power brakes, cowl induction)

4. correct, the hardware is to adjust the door. Not sure what the "correct" ones look like off hand.

If you go to our sponsors website, they have most of the stuff you need. Just do a search on cowl induction

Got it hooked up tonight, Need to lay into the throttle pretty heavy to get it to open but it's really cool now that's working. Can anyone provide a picture to show the hose routing? I hooked the line into the trans hose. \

Thank you for the info, Is there any way to get it to open when I "blip" the throttle a a stop light?

Thx.

the inlet tube of the acuator should point to the right side of the car (passenger side) when installedin the support part #3968554 . a small hose was routed from the acuator to the back side of a smaller valve part #6440776, the gold side of this valve was then connected to a fitting in the intake manifold. hope this helps

with the q jet on the motor I had to get on it pretty good to get it to open, but I switched to a performer carb this weekend and it seems to open alot quicker now. Also all my bog and stumble dissappeared. Jim

I am running a Edelbrock carb. It works fine, I'm sure that was the whole idea to only open at full throttle. Where does that "ring" go on the CI setup? On the air cleaner or on the hood? It's as big as the outer diameter of the air cleaner and it has one flat edge.

The ring goes on the air cleaner with the flat edge towards the back.

Connect it to a "manifold vacuum" source & it should open with less throttle.

I have it hooked into the power brake fitting. Does that ring just sit on the air cleaner? The seal goes on this ring correct? I have the seal but it looks to be the correct length to go around the air cleaner W/O the ring. Some one could have modified it though.

The ring sits on the air cleaner and the rubber seal fits on the edge of the ring. Sounds like someone shortened the seal.
