: I Cant Get No Tractionaction (help)
lemonice Jun 11th, 06, 12:23 PM i just posted all the facts under ENGINE. see lemonice. how or what are you guys using for traction on cars with 600hp running in the low 11s. 69 chevelle, 12 bolt,posi,4:11,boxed arms, sway bar,CE shocks @ 50/50,airbag on r/r cornor, new 29x9 slicks.
fowl69 Jun 11th, 06, 5:32 PM Hi there buddy that thing was brutal last night but your right you need traction try these sites www.umiperformance and www.hrpartsandstuff.com might look at that and im sure some of these guys on here can help out .
lemonice Jun 12th, 06, 1:50 PM anybody using lift bars on a chevelle with big block??
Rowdy Jun 12th, 06, 2:10 PM Yeah, I have lift bars, adjustable uppers, triangulation brackets and a 1" rear sway bar. That doesn't mean that I can help you much in the traction department though. With NITTO L60/15 Drag Radials @ 20 psi, my Chevelle still launches like it's on a frozen pond.
lemonice Jun 12th, 06, 8:16 PM WOW, i am lost for sure. i dont know what to do for traction now? any proven parts out there for hooking up a 600 hp bb 69 chevelle????????
bracketchev1221 Jun 12th, 06, 9:28 PM I had the CE shocks and moroso springs so I didn't use an airbag. But I used the SSM upper and lower bars, with the stock sway bar. With 4.88's and a trans brake I went a best of 10.38. I got a best 60' with this combo at 1.47. What also might need to be looked at is how quick the front rises transferring load to the rear.
lemonice Jun 12th, 06, 10:54 PM what tires/slicks are you running name& size,,,and what air pressure was you running?? thanks.
Bob West Jun 12th, 06, 11:37 PM Lift bars in stock location on a Moser 12 bolt housing, upper and lower control arm mounts are slightly higher and lower than a stock 12 bolt, METCO adjustable uppers set at stock length, HRpartsnstuff antiroll bar, OEM rear springs, QA1 single adjustable rear shocks, 15x10 draglites wrapped up by Hoosier 30x10.5x15 radial slicks,C07 compound. Best of 1.417 to date, and I'm thinking about changing front springs to help it out a little more. KONI shocks up front set on full soft, bb non a/c springs, and front swaybar is intact. I think the ATI MRT converter has alot to do with it also, I leave at 15-1600 rpm.
SS_Dave Jun 13th, 06, 8:27 AM .. also, I leave at 15-1600 rpm.
Bob,
You leave at 1600 rpm and pull the wheels 4" ?
I'd need 900 lbft to do that.
Some traction ideas.
I have Lakewood no-hop bars AND SSM bars on.
The SSMs let me set the pinion angle to - 4 or so.
This allows the rear to rotate up under load.
That pulls on the no-hops, which have raised the center higher than
the stock arms are. The SSMs provide upward force which raises the body
on launch. That pushes the wheels down on the track.
Works for me, but my 60 foot times are pitiful at 1.85 best.
However, my car dead hooks. NO tire spin on 10" slick.
So, now I need to dump some weight, and add some torque.
Probably won't do either, since it really is a street car.
what are ssm bars. just asking because i dont know. thanks.
bracketchev1221 Jun 13th, 06, 9:24 AM I ran the phoenix 10.5X29.5 on a 15x10 rim at 10psi. SSM bars were the old Southside Machine company lift bars. I believe they were sold and are now made by lakewood.
LAUGHING RAT Jun 13th, 06, 9:57 AM I Run The Dick Miller Racing Rear Suspension Package With Qa1 Single Adjustable Shocks Front And Rear. Moroso Trick Springs Up Front. 28 X 10 Hoosier Slicks @ 12 Psi. Do5 Compound And Stiff Sidewall. Front Travel Limiters Almost All The Way Up. Still Trying Different Combinations To Get It To 60' Better. 1.56 Is Best So Far. Also Trying To Get Into The 10.xx's On Motor Alone.
BillsCamino Jun 13th, 06, 10:20 AM When you guys get it figured out let me know...;)
I'm way too sensitive for track conditions. Good track prep will yield lowest 1.4x 60' times from my car.
But, on track rental or test & tune nights, my 60's can range as high as 1.8x's.
Gonna try and work on it some...
SS_Dave Jun 13th, 06, 11:00 AM Southside Machine bars are lower control arms that have bearings in the
fulcrum points instead of bushings.
They also lower the axel mounted end by about 2".
And, they mount to a side plate on the axel that you can use
to set your pinion angle. The other way to set the pinion is with
adjustable upper control arms.
cop Jun 13th, 06, 12:49 PM where can i get a set of southside traction bars for my chevelle/?///?///?//?//?

ATI MRT converters are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! It actually pulls the wheels higher than that, just a slow photographer :D
bracketchev1221 Jun 13th, 06, 6:23 PM Bill I find that too. Sometimes a test and tune day just isn't the same as a full race day. The track temp isn't the same, rubber on the surface isn't there(especially if there are a lot of street cars). You got to try and tune on a race day for good results.
Bob West Jun 13th, 06, 6:30 PM where can i get a set of southside traction bars for my chevelle/?///?///?//?//?
No such luck,,,out of business,,,,Jegs makes something similar, Lakewood makes liftbars, and also check out www.umiperformance.com (http://www.umiperformance.com), they make a bracket that drops down the rear of the lower control arms also for around 80 bucks.
ChevelleRob Jun 13th, 06, 7:18 PM If you have the lakewood bars and the southside's with the lower relocating brackets installed that is bad. Take one of them off, and use adjustable arm for pinion angle. With both styles of traction devices onyour instant center is way off.
i have CE 3 way front shocks with stock BB springs, old stock style rear springs, Morrison "no Hop" bars with double adjustable uppers. So far best 1.45 60's. You will want some type of anti roll bar similar ot the Wolfe set up would be my reccomendation. Unless you want to look like this
