dgwar Jun 11th, 06, 2:34 AM That looks excellent. Very nice work.
66 Malibu Man Jun 11th, 06, 8:06 AM Looks like you put a lot of well spent time in it, looks great. I hope mine looks that good when I get that far.
gspan1830 Jun 11th, 06, 11:22 AM Very cool, are you putting new guts in the trans?
68KMENO Jun 11th, 06, 11:43 AM Rich ...great looking so far
I've just one question ? why no scattersheild bellhousing.. I only ask becouse I've been there done that.... flywheels make major holes in things !!
Rich-L79 Jun 11th, 06, 12:57 PM Very cool, are you putting new guts in the trans?
No, that case is just a place holder until I can get the transmission I intend to buy in there.

I'm using a new steel billet flywheel so the need for it is not there as far as the flywheel is concerned. I don't realy intend to abuse this thing anyway.
bluechevelless Jun 11th, 06, 1:34 PM Looking really good...
Whats the things that are inside the rear springs?

Air bags. They will allow some adjustability to the rear springs. I will also be able to better tune the suspension for drag racing (different pressures side to side to help it launch better) and for road racing (to temporarily increase the effective spring rate) and for hauling if necessary (it is a wagon after all).
Chris R Jun 11th, 06, 3:10 PM That looks very nice. Isnt body work supposed to be done before a body is lifted off? It almost looks like the steering shaft will bend just from sticking out that far with a steering wheel on the end.
Rich-L79 Jun 11th, 06, 5:11 PM It's a matter of choice. I've always done the chassis first, then worked my way up. If you did body work on a body sitting on a bent frame you'd have a body which is not correct either. I don't think I'd want to lift and replace a body which has already been worked, it's better to do the body work once the body is back on the frame for the last time in my opinion. This one won't need any substantial body work anyway, no panel replacement will be needed.
The steering wheel was only there long enough to allow me to move the thing around. That shaft is more than 1/2 inch thick, it isn't going to bend easily.
LeoP Jun 11th, 06, 8:56 PM WOW Rick, that wagon is gonna rock Nebraska and all the surrounding states.
Freddy Mercado Jun 11th, 06, 9:41 PM Holly S*it, that is nice!!!!!
Andy69 Jun 11th, 06, 11:33 PM Woah. That's really nice work, Rich.
Mark 502 Jun 12th, 06, 11:24 AM Lookin good Rich. It's come a long way since I first looked at it. You have some nice stuff bolted on. It will make a great street and strip car. Are you gonna paint it the same color as the L 79?
Mark

The color is still up in the air. It WILL have a white interior and a factory color so that provides some limits at least. I really want to paint it Evening Orchid but the wife is very much against that. Maroon is my 2nd choice but I may have to just tick off the wife because I really like Evening Orchid. I even toyed with painting it white for some reason. I wish the '65 color choices would have included a brighter version of yellow. Black and red are out of the question because, well, every other car seems to be black or red any more. The wife really likes Artesian Turquiose but it wasn't available with a white/black interior (it was available with a white/turquoise interior however but that doesn't really trip my trigger). But, that decision is still a long ways off.
I did reach another milestone with the project today. I made an appointment to get started on the body work. I should be able to drop off the main body in August! I won't make it for CB07, but I'm shootin' for CB08 as a realistic goal!

I was thinking that but didnt know for sure. Thats pretty cool...

Rich,
Does it HAVE to be a factory offered color combo???
How many people would "know" that "white/black" wasn't offered with Artesian Turquoise??? Even at a "Chevelle-Only" show, 99%+ will probably never know that white/black wasn't available with Artesian Turq... It will still appear stock, and just like the BB, it will appear as something the factory could have built with parts on hand...
Take my car for instance. I wanted "white", but didn't like the "white/black" factory. So I did white with body colored (Marina/Bright Blue) carpet/dash/door tops/seat belts, but seats/console/door/kick panels are all white, but all in factory pieces... Looks totally stock, just not available in that combo from the factory...

Ah, but I'd know. ;)
Actually, Artesian Turquoise and black/white doesn't sound like all that an appealing combination anyway. I'm just being arbitrarily stubborn since it's a hot rod and I can make it any color I want to really. :D
I'm still stuck on Evening Orchid, it's such a cool color. My wife's arguement is that EO is an "elegant" color and a wagon just isn't nor can it be "elegant". :clonk:
JimN Jun 12th, 06, 9:15 PM Looks great and brings back many happy memories.

Rich .... I'm sure the silvered tongued devil that you are ... that you're think up something !! Hummm Like but honey how could it not be ELEGANT with you in it ???
DaleM Jun 12th, 06, 10:57 PM Looks great so far Rich. I do have a comment though. You say you don't need a scattershield because (1) you have a steel billet flywheel and (2) you don't plan to abuse it. The flywheel aside, you still have a clutch disc and pressure plate that can explode when your not abusing it drag racing or road racing (reasons for having the air bags). Might think twice about the scattershield if you plan on even occasionally racing it. :)
FWIW, Evening Orchid with an off-white leather interior and darker purple painted interior trim would be killer!
ssal396 Jun 13th, 06, 10:20 AM Looks GREAT, it will be a shame to cover up all that hard work with a body though :D
bluechevelless Jun 25th, 06, 2:36 AM I was thinking that but didnt know for sure. Thats pretty cool...
Who makes them Air Bags cause I would like to look at them and prices might consider that instead of a spring change. My rear springs are making the car real low in the back and I dont even have the interior in yet.
mike67sd Jun 25th, 06, 1:20 PM Nice start on the wagon there. One thing though, youre telling us your not going to abuse it with a 427 with tube headers under foot??? SUURE YOU WONT!
Derek69SS Jun 25th, 06, 1:39 PM Looks great Rich! I must say, though, I've got to side with your wife on the color choice... I love Evening Orchid on a coupe, but I think it would just be too much of that color on a wagon.
By all means, feel free to prove me wrong though
