Just wandering getting ready to weld a front fender patch in, and was wandering if this could be accomplished with just a Core Flux welder?

This can be done with flux core wire without problems, altough gas would be MUCH better. Just make sure that the areas surfaces that you are going to weld are very clean bare steel. I always use a "light spritz" of Weld-Thru Zinc on the two parts being welded for corrosion protection etc... You'll find that the flux core will leave a brownish residue on the steel which will have to be thoroughly cleaned off, using a wire wheel on a drill works best.

Take your time & have fun.

Hope it Helps.

Also, be VERY carefull about you welding technique. Tack the patch once on one end, let it cool, go to the other end, do the same. I made a perfect patch for my fender, thought I was letting it cool enough between tacks, but wasn't I guess. The metal expanded from the heat (I also have a flux core, and they weld too hot for this this metal imo), and ended up with a extremely bowed out patch. Couldn't get it shrunk, and had to scrap it.
