Just dropped off a pair of heads to have a valve job done and machine for screw in studs. Machinist called and left a message asking me for the instruction sheet that came with the studs so he'd know how much to take off?

My studs didn't come with an instruction sheet?

This guy is an old school life long machinist, I have complete faith in him, but don't ever remember buying a set of screw in studs that came with an instruction sheet?

Dirt,
If I remember correctly, I usually take about .375 off the boss. You need to remove the thickness of the hex part of the stud and the thickness of the guide plate. Make sure he drills out the pushrod guide slots to 9/16" too if you are using guide plates.
This guy must not do many of these. I cannot ever remember seeing a set of studs with instructions telling you how much to cut the heads down.

Hey Bill K do you have any picks of that HEAVY? I really dig those. More than an SS.--Laterman Josh

Sometimes I think of building a Heavy Chevy El Camino. With a flapper instead of just a dome. Maybe I will one of these days. BTW How do you know if a car was a HEAVY, my friend has a Chevelle that I suspect was under a tarp. It has a 400 sm blck. Didn't some HEavies get those?
