Hello again - last week I posted about only having 7 volts to the choke. Got some good tips about replacing the resistance wire. So I did.
Now I have another issue that has me beating my head against the wall.

Ok, I ran a new wire from the fuse panel and tapped off the wiper motor source. Ignition off, no current, on I get 12.2 volts. When I connect it to the (brand new) electric choke on my Holley, the choke won't open. The + male tab only shows 1.8 volts when powered up. In frustration, I ran a simple wire direct to the choke from the battery. 12.2 volts same as my new wire. But this direct wire will open the choke just like I expect. It opens slowly in a minute's time which is normal, right? And I get 12.2 volts at the male tab when powered up. Bang, bang bang goes the head. Why 1.8 volts on my fuse panel wire, and 12.2 volts direct from the battery? When I remove my new panel wire for the choke it reads 12.2 volts with ignition on when disconnected. Connect it and it drops to 1.8. Arrgh! The carb is well grounded. I have continuity all over the engine to frame and everything electrical works other than this. What am I missing? (other than half a bottle of aspirin) Pardon my tone - it has been raining here in Maine for the last two months straight and I haven't been able to drive the car. Tom

You are a funny guy Tom :D
Where exactly is the wire connected?
Sounds to me like it needs to be connected to a source that provides full voltage under load, not just full voltage with no load.

Well I took a six hour 'patience' break and went back into the garage.
The power source is the common yellow for the wiper motor. I chose that one because it was near to the wire sleeve that runs all the way to the alternator so I can neatly tuck it in there and have it pop out right next to the choke. Turns out my connection was loose at that location - I'll never quit my day job to be a professional wire solderer. I did a better job the second try. All is working now, including the wiper. I now have a better understanding how that choke works - and sure thank you again for the past replies.
