: HELP Paint gun selection
sarchevyman Nov 21st, 04, 7:02 AM I have a 60 gallon comp, 6.5 hp, at 40psi I have 11.7 scfm, at 90psi I have 10.2 scfm. This is a x-mas gift for myself, so price is not an issue, but being able to lay down a smooth clear coat is. I will be painting a few cars so it has to work with my comp. Thanks steve
West72Chevelle Nov 21st, 04, 12:54 PM The best 2 guns I've sprayed with are a SataJet 2000 Digital (HVLP of course) and a DeVilbiss GTI Millenium (also HVLP). Check www.spraygundepot.com (http://www.spraygundepot.com) for more information.
sarchevyman Nov 21st, 04, 1:09 PM Yes I have read up on both, just worried about the compressor handling the air with these, do you see a problem? Thanks
TSN100 Nov 21st, 04, 2:58 PM Steve, I started searching last year and came up with the Sharpe Platinum series HVLP gravity feed, #2013. Requires only 7.5cfm @ 50 psi. Seems ideal for my application. I didnt need such a low cfm, just wanted a safe margin. I havent had a chance to use the gun yet, but there were quite a few good reviews from others here who had. Search some of the old post's, and I'm sure you can find more info on a gun that fits your needs.

sarchevyman Nov 21st, 04, 3:34 PM Thanks, I have searched the site for hours no real info on my size comp and gun that would work, I have looked at the sharpe also, but since this a chance to get the "best" gun that works with my comp I was hoping someone with the same setup would chime in with some feedback on actual gun usage, or someone that really is up on gun requirements, scfm ect.. Thanks again, Steve
69ssmike Nov 21st, 04, 4:20 PM Most HVLP'S take more cfm to operate properly. They are a little harder to spray with also. My choice would be the SATA RP it's a non hvlp but sprays at reduced pressures. . Just my .02 Mike

bhawk Nov 21st, 04, 5:46 PM I think your compressor will be at the smaller end of the cfm outputters. Therefore I would not buy a gun without knowing for sure, from the manufacturers spec sheet, how much cfm it calls for. In my case, my 60 gal 5 hp compressor puts out 9.5 cfm. There is almost nothing I could find in hvlp that can work on that limited air output, except the Sharpe Platinum. I bought it and it works great, but I have never used another gun as I am a newbie to spraying. My compressor hardly runs when I spray and it can catch up and shut off when I am still spraying. I suspect nothing would be worse than loosing pressure at the gun in the middle of a clear coat. But again, my experience is limited.
67ss Nov 22nd, 04, 1:42 PM I have a satajet 90 that is not HVLP and ive used with the campbell hausefeld 60 gal comp and it worked great.super smooth with the base coat and clear coat.I used reduced pressure with it and it looked like glass when i finished.I love that spray gun.
