Before the rain cancelled first round in a Once a Month Top Street Legal Race,

Car ran a new best of 10.491 @128.03 mph....Now the Bonehead part...

:clonk: I forgot to take the Trailers Spare Tire out of the Trunk and the 18+ gallons of gas didn't help either :clonk:

So with the spare tire weighing in at 42 pounds, that is why my 60 fts couldn't get out of the 1.50's...and possibly because the track was cold with the Humidity at 98% !!!!! It has rained so much here, we are already 5" above the average for June.

I guess that's good news, I will now have a note on my steering wheel to remind me to take out the spare....DUH !!!!

We'll see how she goes on Sunday without the spare tire and 10 less gallons of gas....LOL

Excellent numbers Tom, despite the weather....conditions.

Bonehaed? No, that's me...I invented that name......or was that pinhead....I dunno.

I see 10.20's in your future.......on that killer day......

Thanks...

Swapped out my 4781C 850 DP for my Pro-Systems 1000+HP carb...

First Pass with the carb was a 10.55 at 127.48 mph, but Patrick James told me to make sure the fuel was 40% to 50% into the sight glass..It wasn't...

so I adjusted the floats up and then it went 10.49 at 128.03 with essentially the same 60 ft.

The carb bolt-on is worth a .10 (so far) and 2 mph. I am still having a hesitation off the line with the HP carb and need to get that squared away as it is Not the accelerator pump circuit. So once that is squared away I see some quicker times in the near future.

Today I am going to try and get the H-pipe on too see what that may deliver.

Congrats, Tom! Was this the first outing with the new heads? I seem to recall that you installed some AFRs? What other changes were made? I'm sure it has a ton more in it. The barge is moving

EDIT: You must have posted while I was replying :) I had a similar problem with my HP1000 on the old engine. Ended up having to drill the air bleeds. Problem solved.

Tom,

Congratulations on the new best. Looks like it can only get better with a little weight reduction :)

Hey Ken,

New AFR's were worth a bolt on .25 to .30 and it really pulls hard mid track 3 to 4 mph quicker in the 1/8th. My cam is .100" and 12 degrees less in lift and duration as recommended by AFR. (Current cam is .680 lift and 252/260 @0.050). I need a little more gear as it seems this motor now wants to run around 6500 RPM not my typical 6000.

My previous best last year with the 850 carb and the other heads was 10.76, I bolted on the Pro-systems carb and it went 10.65 with the hesitation.

With the 850 carb and the new AFR's, it went 10.54 in OK air.

With the poor conditions last night the car ran 10.65 at 126.02 with the 850 and then 10.55 127.48 just bolting on the Pro-Systems with identical 1.51 60 ft's. Once I adjusted the floats in the HP to the right level, it went the 10.49 at 128.03...........and then it rained

BTW - Ignition timing is 34 total right now I haven't gotten a read on what this motor wants for timing yet.....need some more experiments.

Just got back inside form installing the H-Pipe...can't tell if the car is quieter, and seems to sound the same. Racing tomorrow and will report the results.

Next season is the Strange S-60 rear and the ATI 8" converter so I can step it up another notch. I like beefing up the parts before putting more power to them..Looking for 9.90's in 2008.

I am going to have someone shoot videos of all my runs tomorrow Interested ????

Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to ya, I was busy swapping carbs and such..

Patrick had me do 2 things so far and the third is to take out the PV in the front, plug it and jet it square..I'll do that this afternoon and see what happens on Sunday....air bleeds hmm, yeah that makes sense..he hasn't suggested that yet, but I'll have good data for him on Monday..

A word of caution here about your future plans to install a Dana 60. The Dana 60 is stronger but also takes more power to turn. A local guy here a Dana 60 and promtly lost a tenth and a half and one MPH after the swap.

Thanks for the info Harold.

I am concerned about breaking the 12-bolt. I know it is 25 pounds heavier and the ring gear is much bigger (relatively speaking of course) But the strength of it has caught my attention.

I wonder if the Dana 60 as it comes stock and the S-60 from Strange are an apples to apples comparison as far as power consumption..I don't know the answer to that one...but it would be reasonable to say they are.

Any other thoughts??
