I thought it was all original, numbers matching SS convrtable.
Went for 69,000.
I don't understand how a 70 Challenger Hemi clone can go for 250,000
and this beautiful, all black on black SS convertable could go for so little,
in comparison. Are people stupid?

I almost got mad. ;)

The only thing I can think of against the 69, is it was an automatic.
But, still !

There are mainly two kinds of people at that auction. They are there either to prove who can outbid the other guy or, buy strictly for investment. The first group doesn't have a clue, they just want to be on TV or impress the trophy wife, the second will pay for what's "hot" at the moment hoping to sell for a gain. Right now its Mopars that are hot and some say underpriced (but that's changing fast) so that's where the money goes. If you notice over the years its the same crowd selling to each other. They buy in Scottsdale, drag it to Palm Beach and sell to someone who drags it to Scottsdale............... It would be interesting to see the data on how many cars are bought at auction and actually driven, enjoyed and kept over two years by the new owner.

Is it just me or do others notice , the price for the "average" muscle car seems to be waning a bit?

I just watched it, supposedly it was a 396/350 built to LS6 specs, sounds fishy to me.... Was it a 396 or a 454 under the hood?

Even still.
I know it is market interest that drives the prices, but a 70 hemi clone
isnt any better than that car was, 396/454 or whatever.
IMO, that car should have gone for at least 100K.

Maybe its just the way it hit me, but, I would have given that for it.

To me, they are ALL overpriced because the market price is based on too many investors and speculators... The Hemi cars (and clones) moreso than others...

To support my opinion, I look at some of the about posts... If the "buyer" has no intention of driving (really driving) the car, then they probably paid more (way more) than its true value... At that point its just "art" and that brings a subjective price...

Its too bad that too many people equate this "art" with regular, typical cars...

I have dreamed on selling my cars for $$$, but I'd be happier if the value (and prices) dropped to zero... I could afford to have more... Of course, my only reason to sell would be to buy something else, and Musclecar prices are all relative...

Of course, with THAT particular Chevelle, it wasn't an L78 or L89, which would MORE equate with the Hemi in terms of rarity... It was "only" a 350HP version (originally, right)... That should equate more closely to a standard 440/4barrel powered car. Then there's the 'Cuda/Challenger "desire"... While other Hemi's (Belvedere, GTX, Charger, RoadRunner, SuperBee, etc) are still expensive, they are usually nowhere near the price of the 'Cuda and Challenger models...

Furthermore, the big bucks seem to go for "completely stock/restored, or big-name Pro-built rides... I don't think that Chevelle was either supposedly it was a 396/350 built to LS6 specs The LS6 had different bore and different heads, intake, carb, etc. So how could it be numbers matching (higher value) yet bult to LS6 specs???... I heard something about that too, but I was channel surfing and just clicked over when they were talking about the car...

I doubt he did, but I hope the seller lost money...
