: Muncie Help!!!!
1965_SSChevelle Jun 8th, 06, 8:49 PM I picked up a muncie for a good price (I think). Syncronizer is bad. Anyways. I have posted a few pics to see what you guys think I need. I was thinking of getting a new rebuild kit and the torque lock sliders? Any help is appreciated.

 I think that box is a little beyond a "rebuild kit" and new sliders. Looks like it was recovered from a flood! I can't imagine what the shafts look like.

If its that bad then I guess I will just toss it.

Yep the syncro is broke. For you to use this, the rust needs to go. If the main shaft is okay, then you needs to toss the hubs and sliders, bead blast the gears, just the gear portion not the area where the syncro rides. Then do the normal rebuild.
Most of the time I would say run away from a deal like this but you already spent your money so this is a way to recover.
Hubs are $32 each, sliders are $34 to $41 each, kit is $130.
What to the forks look like???
1965_SSChevelle Jun 9th, 06, 8:14 AM Thanks for the help Wally. I only have 150.00 in the trans. Here are the forks.

69-CHVL Jun 9th, 06, 9:38 AM Question...the gears on the mainshaft seem a little off from the gears on the cluster shaft. Seems like one of the shaft should move over a bit to better line up the gears. Is that common? Mine looked like that too.
dreis454 Jun 9th, 06, 11:08 AM Is that a m20,21 or 22? I would not toss it, good to keep for parts anyways.

Measure the forks at the tip, full size they will be around .360, toss them under .330. Once the wear starts it move at warp speed to get worst. It must be because the metal is surface hardened and once it wears away it's on the fast track to the junk pile.
1965_SSChevelle Jun 9th, 06, 6:35 PM Wally, I checked the forks, all four were .360 or .358. So they should be ok.
gspan1830 Jun 9th, 06, 10:52 PM Wally, is it common for a syncro ring to break like that? I've never seen one do that.

Nope, never seen one broken myself.
COPO Jun 10th, 06, 12:16 PM Holy crap. Did you take the side cover off before you bought it. Looks like it was on the beach with the side cover off.

Good job:)
One more thing that might be nice is to take the main shaft to a machine shop and have them spin it in a lathe and polish it. I still see a little crude in the reverse area, clean that up and polish it.
Just being anal:thumbsup:
1965_SSChevelle Jun 10th, 06, 8:49 PM Will do. I really havent cleaned on the main shaft yet. It may come off without much effort.

Thanks. Now if I can get it back together.
