WAY, WAY back in 1983 I repainted a 1967 Malibu for a friend of mine. This was an original, unmolested, driven by granny, 283 equiped Malibu. Anyway, I am 99.999999% sure that this car had lower body molding on it. It was 1-2 inches wide, had ribs in it, and was on the rear quarters, rocker panels, and maybe the front fenders. I remember taking it off and putting it back on. Talked to a sales tech at one of the Chevelle restoration parts business and he is telling me that the lower body molding was available only on SS. Who is right?

Thanks!

Sounds like it may have been a 66. The 66SS has lower moulding on the rockers and the lower rear quarters. 67's never had a lower rear quarter moulding like you mentioned.

M22 is right. The 67 SS had the same type ribbed moulding, but only under the door - from wheel well to wheel well...didn't continue to rear quarters behind wheel well.

It was definately a 1967 model. I liked it so much that I bought myself a 1967 once I had the money. We painted the lower 25% of the car black and we used the trim line as a cut-off point for the black. The rest we painted gold. It may have been up higher than the rockers. Maybe it was on the lower part of the doors.......

If I can hunt my buddy down, I'll have to ask him about it.

I think that you are referring to the side molding that came standard on all 67 Malibu's. This molding was narrower than a rocker molding, and was located higher on the body, roughly where the body starts to curve in.

Those Malibu moldings aren't available new and haven't been for quite some time. I've picked up a few spare sections here and there from various Team Chevelle members. As for the SS fluted rocker molding, it available reproduction with most suppliers.
