My '68 Chevelle is starting to show it's age. The leaded (assuming it's leaded) seams between the a-pillar and roof panel and roof panel to quarter panels are starting to crack. What's the best method for restoring these seams?

I'll eventually be blasting the car to expose these areas of concern. I would assume that simple plastic body filler may not be enough. Should all the original lead be melted out?

Thanks for any suggestions and sharing any success stories.

If the seems are showing you need to fully remove the material that is in the seem whether its lead or filler. Remove the lead with very low heat and slowly melt the lead out. When I do my seems after removing lead I sandblast the seem, it helps get rid of any impurties that might still be present. I use a small hand held blaster called speed blaster. Bought mine off snap on truck but eastwoods sells them for roughly 45 bucks and they are the handest tools to have around.

You can fill the seem with a glass straid type of filler like Marglass. The straided type of filler has bit more strength then regular filler but doesnt feather out every well and more prone to pin holes. So just use the Marglass for a "base coat" sand down the marglass with 36 or 80 grit then topcoat with a good filler like evercoats rage or rage gold
