I need to replace the headlight switch in the dash as I think its the root of the problem of my headlights (only) not working. In looking online at OPG, they sell a "Headlight and Wiper Switch Nut Tool" (http://www.opgi.com part #CC28142). Do I need that, or something like it to get it out of the dash?
Would like to know before I place the order...
Thanks,
You don't need the tool if you can unscrew the ring around the base of the switch. Don't forget that to remove the headlight switch, you need to depress the little button on the body of the switch to remove the shaft. The button is sometimes located on top of the body and it can be fun to get to. Remove the shaft, unscrew the bezel and remove the switch body from the back of the dash. (oh yeah, unplug the cable harness first.
Thanks Herb, good points. I would have never known about the little button. Does sound like fun! I've have plenty of that kind of fun lately...

You will also have fun trying to get your hand up in there to depress the button and remove the switch without unplugging every wire behind the dash.
Sometimes you need to drop the dash on the 66 & 67's to get to the headlight switch. Good luck

I had to drop the dash to change out my switch. Big hand and tight spaces do not go well together.

As already mentioned: tight to get to - dropping dash is better. Depress spring loaded botton on switch as you pull the knob outwards.
Snap ring pliers work well for removing the switch bezel ring.
When reinserting the knob - pressing the spring loaded button again on the switch - helps the know knob shaft slide in.
Also with the dash dropped is agood time to replace those normally hard to get to dash light bulbs.
The dash can actually be dropped fairly easily. About 7 bolts. Drop the steering column down and out it comes. You don't need to disconnect the wires to everything, but you will need to unscrew the speedo cable.
The directions are in the chassis service manual.
