I converted my automatic to a 4 speed with Tach and Gauges and while converting the wiring I found one black wiring plug that I'm not sure what it is for. It seems to go to near the center of the dash area and has 3 wires to it: a white, a orange and a grey. The plug end is female and has two vertical and one horizontal socket. Grey traces back to a 'central' grey bulbs hookup, orange traces back to a 'central' orange hookup and white traces back to 'central' white hookup. All other wires are labelled and accounted for. Can someone with a 68 tach and gauges setup check and see if they have this black plug and what plugs into it? Kevin

That is the connection for console lighting.

Do you mean the lighting connection to the floor shifter console?
Do I need to connect anything to it to make a full circuit or can I just tie it off if I'm not adding a console?

An auto trans console will have shift indicator lighting tied to the dash lights, the gray wire and the rear curtsey light, orange and white wires. A manual trans console will have the curtsey light only.

No console the connector is just taped up out of the way, no connection needed.
