: What are '66 seat beat buckles supposed to look like?

I've had my '66 for many many years. I have front seat belts but none in the rear. I want to get a couple of sets for the year and was browsing EBay. To my surprise, the '66 buckles don't look like what are on my car currently.

I have black buckles, that are I guess called "aircraft style". You pull up on one end; they're hinged in the rear. All black with the fisher body logo of an old car on it. On the back, I think they say 'Jim Robbins Co.' and have and ID like '6617'. Makes it seems like they are from 1966.

Were these optional belt buckles on a '66, or do I have some belts from a different GM 1966 vehicle?

Not a big deal...it's not an all-original car, but I would like them to all match...

I'll try to take a photo tonight and add it to this post.

Thanks,

Different manufactors, jim robbins, hamill, irving air chute co,& std belt company. There were standard and deluxe. Sounds like you have the standard. Probably no rubber boots and the oblong anchor clips. Anchor clips & bucket clips different on std & deluxe belts. You may have some of the tags still on the belts and this can help you in identifying the belts. I have the deluxe belts in my 66 with the rubber boots and the belt retractors. Have some std belts, one robbins & 3 irving, same exact buckel. 64 & 65 buckels are different then 66, think 67 the same excepts for a different on the retractors between the 66 & 67 deluxe model. Lots of wrong descriptions out there on Ebay.

Thanks for the info Jim. Didn't get a chance to get a photo of them; maybe tonight. But you're right, non-retractable, no boot.

So I guess then in '66 they the lift-lever style ("aircraft style") like mine. Or were the deluxe version like yours the push-button style?

I want to order a pair for the rear so my kids can take rides with us in their car seats. Not looking for exact match, but something 'close' enough to not look bad. I may need to purchase all 4 just so they look the same...but not originals.

btw, your '66 is HOT! One of these days, I want to get the same wheel setup as you have on yours... those are not original are they?

FYI: get the push button style belt - they work alot easier with kids carseats then than the "aircraft" style.

I'd be interested in looking at the photos just to learn more about the two styles, if it isn't too much trouble.

I might have a pair of the air craft style, what are you looking to spend?

If Gunn doesn't want them, I could use a set of the black ones. I only need 2, but would buy all four if necessary. What are you looking to get for them. I am up in Jordan MN

I still have to get out there and take a picture; promise...

Wayne brought up a good point. I think I'll try to find some pushbutton style belts. Probably will get some from OPG or YearOne that are acceptable for the rear seat.

Ok, here is one picture I took of my current front seatbelt on my '66. Is this an original style? It's definately from 1966. The tag on the belt down where it connects to the floor say 1966. And something about Model 300 I think; hard to read.

That looks like it to me, both the buckel and the clip that goes into the buckel, This should have a oblong anchor clip that bolts to the floor, chrome if for front seat and a general plating if for the back seats. Webbing and stitching look correct also. This is the standard set NOT the deluxe set.

Cool, good to hear Jim. I'm guessing most of what I see to purchase are the deluxe sets.

Your right, it does have a chrome anchor near the floor in the front.

Now just need to find a matched set for the rear...
