I was just wondering if you can run an electric water pump drive setup on a street driven vehicle? Most of the kits say for drag race use only, is it just taht they don't spin fast enough or can't handle the continues duty?
we are swapping a 91 5.2 into my sons 88 dakota that had a v6 and the only water pump that fits the 91 is a reverse rotation(serpantine belt) but we want to run a conventional belt drive because we don't have all the pulleys for a sepantine, so I am thinking of using an electric drive for the pump.

Steve from steves jackstands had poster at one time in here about them
he claims they should be at least 55 gal rating and remember the draw on the electrical system .

Thanks for the reply, I see that they sell over drive pulleys for the electric motor, that may increase the flow enough to work. This little engine swap project is becoming a challenge because I don't want to install the air pump so if I get all the pulleys for the stock serpatine belt setup I will have to find a shorter belt. We almost have the motor assembled so we will just have to mock up all the accessories and figure it out I guess

Thanks for the info, I eneded up getting a timing cover/water pump housing from an earlier 318 so I can use a conventional pump. Of course I already had the bottom end together and the front cover on so I may have to get some new gaskets but I think this will be much easier then trying to get all the pulleys and such for a serpantine system
