: Question about Holly Carb replacing Rochester 2 bl.

I just bought a 69 Chevelle with a small block 307. I'm new at this so my questions might sound unsophisticated.

Did all the basic work to get her running well (plugs/points, belts/hoses etc.) Car came with the original Rochester 2 barrel carb. I replaced it with a Holly 4 barrel, which I noticed has 2 fuel ports. I only hooked up the single fuel line I had, because I did not know if I put a splitter on the fuel line if I would have to upgrade the fuel pump. So that's my first question. And, does this mean the carb is actually running on only two barrels?

Second question: Car stalls frequently until warmed up well, but then engine races, to the point it is sometimes hard to hold the car braked at red lights. I'm wondering if this is because of the fuel line issue, and the carb. not getting the right fuel/air mix, because I've adjusted the idle up and down, but both problems persist.

Advice appreciated.

Yes, the carb is only running on 2 barrels. You should be ok putting a spitter and hooking up the other fuel bowl.

What carb did you put on? I put a 600 vacume secondary (1850) and the car starts right up even without a choke (I never hooked it up). Also I can drive it right away and it doesn't stall, but I have to take it easy.

The racing sounds like you have a vacume leak. That could also be the reason it stalls too.

Good luck,
David

Did you put a return spring on the carb? You need one, the one on the carb is not enough. I'm assuming that you changed the manifold at the same time to install the carb. Maybe you messed up the timing?
You should run a dual fuel line. Do you know how big the carb is? There is a number on the airhorn of the carb that will tell you. You shouldn't have to upgrade the fuel pump.
Did you do the points with a dwell meter? It's been a long time since I had points so I don't know what it's supposed to read. Someone else here should be able to tell you.

You say you had 2 bbl and now swapped it to a 4 bbl? Did you happen to swap the intake also? Also, if you did not hook up the 2nd fuel bowl you might have a vacuum leak(if not plugged).
