: 69 Chevelle hood stripe
Does anyone know where to find the correct stencil for the hood stripe on a 69 Chevelle SS hood? I know that at least several hundred cars came from the factory late in the model year with hood and deck stripes. I have a stencil kit for 70-72 and could modify it if I had dimensions and reference points to work with. I have a date at the paint shop in a couple of weeks!
Don_Lightfoot Dec 19th, 01, 6:33 PM I am by no means an expert, but I do not recall any 69's coming with those stripes, even late in the year. There are a couple of cars on this site with those stripes and they look OK.
I stand to be corrected.

micky69396 Dec 19th, 01, 7:18 PM Don, I am with you, they may have had a print on it to do it, but in all the years I have messed with these cars I have never found one that had these stipes originally. I would like to see a documented one though. Personally for me a D-96 stripe is the only one to have on a 69.

bcice Dec 19th, 01, 8:37 PM Mickey. Great Web site!! But whats this all about?
Where we specialize in the ultimate muscle car restoration. We are primarily a GM products only shop, and on occasion Mopars.
I see a mustang and either a 63 1/2 or a 64 Galaxy in that picture! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I have only owned my 69 for a year now but have done a lot of homework on them. I have yet to hear anything other than the side stripes being original. But then again, I learn something new every day.

mrss Dec 19th, 01, 11:32 PM Hey, In the Chevelle SS Restoration Guide(I forgot the author)w/soft cover & 71 Red ss
on the front, There's some info on those stripes. It mentions that the stripes were a dealer option only. White or black. I think that the book gives the specs & dimensions.
1 problem it states is that the SS chevelles
only came w/ a malibu FLAT hood with those
stripes. That sounds kind of weird. Also that the right stripe on the trunk would be
half-way under the chrome Chevelle emblem, that would look kind of goofy too. Hope this helps, Brian
micky69396 Dec 20th, 01, 9:38 AM bcice, thanks on the website, I have only done 1 F**d, and thats it, no more wanted. The picture of all of the cars in the lead shot is of Dick Bridges collection, shot by Tom Shaw of Musclecar Review when they did a story on the cars. I worked full time for him as caretaker of his collection. I decided to open up my own shop in 1996 and move back home to Ohio. I still do his cars from here, but he has sold off quite a bit of the good stuff since I left and that building no longer exsists.

SS_Dave Dec 20th, 01, 1:42 PM There are no stripes for 69 unless it was a
Yenko. I painted white stripes on mine and
Brian is correct. The same width in the back that matches the fron puts the right side of the rear strip part way into the Chevelle emblem. Bugs the krap out of me, but no one
has said anything yet.
The pics on my web bucket ( place to hold pictures ) are from last year, before I got the trim around the stripes.
