I am ready to paint for the first time.. I have read, watched, asked, and even bought a video tape.. I have the mixing, pouring, prepping and painting down pat in my head.. However, the item I will be painting contains decals (motorcycle) and my question is (and was asked of me) can I place the decals on the first cured (for a day) coat of clear and subsequently clear over the decal without issue? The guy want's the sticker buried in the clear and I am worried that the decal will dissolve in the solvents of the clear or possibly trap the solvents underneath it not curing fully?? Can anyone recommend a course of action?

Disclaimer: It is really easy to give advice when your not the one that will be in trouble if it doesn't work out right.

That said, try this. Get a small piece of the same decal material that will be used on the bike. Mix up a little bit of clear and put it on the decal. Then you will know!

I just had one side of my 69 repainted last week at a very reputable body shop, and they would not put the decal down the side for 72 hours after the clear coat went on. They said unless all the solvents had evaporated out of the paint, it would bubble and ruin the decal! If this is true, I can only imagine what would happen by trying to bury the decal under the clear! Good luck!
