What would be the best way to lift the body off. My dad has a forklift that can lift it off...I'm looking for the safest way to take it off, short of having a bunch of people over and doing it by hand

if your body is in good shape, meaning floors and roof. after you remove the interior .under rear seat you will see a large brace on each side.it attaches to floor and continues up on side inner quarter area on the inside of car. it has punched holes . inspect the bottom and around this brace. if floor is still good. attach a strap into the holes on each side and use a spreader bar. this will handle the heavy rear. the front lift point is in front of cowl area at the attaching point. strap it and spreader bar . shouldnt have any problems.

Take the doors off. Attach chains to the seat belt mounting bolts. Put the forks on the fork lift together and angle the forks back, or drill a hole in 1 fork, put the chain around the fork and lift. We did the same thing on my SS car, only we used an egine hoist instad of a fork lift.

I used an engine hoist attached to the fender mounts on the cowl and let it down onto a 4x4 on blocks then lifted the back at the trunk latch bracket and put it down on a 4x4 and blocks again. Real easy. I did this by myself in about a half hour.

I picked up the back half of a 72 by myself.

I flipped the body of my 70 over by myself. 6 guys can pick it up no problem. I made up some brackets that bolted to the lower door hinge mounting surface and used 2 bumper jacks to lift the front and a floor jack to lift the rear.

IMHO Take the doors off! I just did a frame off for the first time and was suprised at how heavy they are. I would guesstimate the weight at about 80 lbs. each. I figure the lighter the body is the less of a chance you have for the body to tweak.
