: What to do when getting car back from painter?

So I will be picking up my car this wednesday from the painter. I have never restored a car, so I'm not sure what I need to do protect the quality of the paint. The car will be stored in a non-heated garage. The guy said he has put 3 or 4 (can't remember) coats of clear on it. Would it be a good idea to give it a good wax job as soon as I get it home, or is there something else I should do first?

Ask the painter when & what and how often to wash & wax, but I bet he will not want anything on the paint for a month or so.

Maybe consider a "Soft car cover", kinda like a terry sheet.

treat it like a baby for at least a month. Full cure doesn't happen untill 90 days reguardless if it was painted in a bake booth or not. Minimum of 30 days before waxing. I've waxed within a week but it delays the drying process and sometimes causes dieback, kills the gloss a bit. 3M makes a nice polish that can be used like a wax on fresh paint.

OK so definitely don't wax, got it. This car won't be ready to drive in 90 days so maybe I just won't do anything to it but keep it covered with one of those soft car covers DG mentioned.

Thanks for the replies!
