: Front fender wheel trim
70_Malibu Jul 12th, 02, 9:08 AM I need to replace the passenger side front wheel trim molding on my 1970 Malibu. I've done searches on this topic and I guess the general consensus is that repops suck. This is scary!! I have to ask, has ANYONE had any luck in finding a replacement, and where?
I looked in GM Parts Direcet and found some there, but the front ones are listed for an Elky, (#3970589, 3970590). Would these work on my Mailbu?
Oh, and on a side note... is the Left Front the drivers side and the Right Front the passenger side? I don't know if you go by standing in front of the car looking at it, or by being in the car facing front. (Yes I am ashamed...)
Thanks guys!!!
FO_FDYFO Jul 12th, 02, 9:56 AM you are correct. left is drivers right is pass side. it is from the point of reference of when you are standing behind the car. just remember it as if you are in the drivers seat and driving. left is always left and right is always right.
now, the elky moldings are not the same or interchangable.

70_Malibu Jul 12th, 02, 10:22 AM GM Parts Direct also had front ones for a Monte, how about those? I can't believe they don't have the front ones for a Chevelle! They have the rear ones! Am I missing something?

sevt_chevelle Jul 12th, 02, 1:02 PM Montes are not the same and will not ift your chevelle. The reason for the rears and not the fronts is simple supply and demand.
NOS moldings can be just as bad to get to fit as the repops. The trick to getting the repops to fit is start on the back, get that area to fit right. Then work down the molding using vise grips and a rubber mallet to gentley recomform the molding. The area with the problems is the front it needs to be bent in more. The repops are easier to recomform because they are made from a lighter gauge of metal...Eric

70_Malibu Jul 23rd, 02, 8:58 AM Well, I went ahead and ordered one from Ausley's Chevelle Parts, Part # WOM7002. After talking with a rep, they said they guaranteed a fit and had no problems with returns. Wish me luck. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Donnie1 Jul 23rd, 02, 3:48 PM the reason you cant find G.M. fronts, is that they were discontinued about 4yrs. ago.
ELLI Jul 23rd, 02, 4:41 PM Good job going with Ausleys, You can find GM ones on Ebay every now and then, but Ausleys will treat you right.

70_Malibu Jul 31st, 02, 8:41 AM Just an update... received the trim yesterday... seems a little less shiny than the others in the wheelwell, but it's not a HUGE difference. It also did't fit exactly, especailly on the front and rear screws. Had to drill some new holes in the quarter, but I got it to sit right. Overall, I'd give it a C. The trim itself does match the the other pieces.
Oh, did I mention there was a sticker on it that said, "Made in Taiwan"!!!!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
