Suprised nobody mentioned the UFC that took place. What a great great event that was. Best UFC I can remember in years.
Hughes vs Gracie, didnt care too much about it going into it, except it would be interesting to see. I figured since the announcment Hughes would pumble Gracie, due to his superior strength and evolution in well rounded abilities. Then I saw some old Gracie fights I didnt remember that well, and saw his training, his grappling is still top notch no doubt, and without question he had the ability to submit Hughes. But boy was it a walk over. To me it was obvious Hughes was proving a point, I think the kimura attempt was pretty much part of the game plan (if the opportunity came up), and I thought for sure Gracie was done. I thought the arm was gonna snap he had it so locked up, but Gracie is one tough SOB that wasnt gonna tap for nothing. Then once he had the back, those punches by Hughes were the most vicious I've ever seen him throw. He made a statement IMO.
Rest of the fights were great, every one of them. The Spencer Fisher fight was exceptionally exciting, one of the best fights I've ever seen. It had everything, and a dynamite finish.
Brandon Vera, he's awesome. Ever since his first fight, I've been watchin him, his strikes with kicks are perhaps the best in the UFC. Because he's a very small heavy wieght, it makes the fights more interesting too.
Swick, would love to see him fight Leben, then the winner go on take on Franklin. Swick is quite good, more well rounded than he appears, though im sure his wrestling isnt at a very high level.
UFC 61: Shamrock vs Tito, thats going to be very exciting. The building up and hype will be enormous, probably bigger and better than the fight itself. Tito the favorite skill wise, Shamrock likely the favorite fan wise. Whats lame is Arlovski/Silvia 3. So you get KO'd and lose your championship, and that earns you the right to immediately get the change to get it back? Whats the UFC thinking? Put Chuck in the cage, he's been out since Feb. Try to load up Frank Mir or something.
Again the Spike TV fights are loaded with ex-TUF fights, same old same old, completely rediculious. UFC's matchmaker, Joe Silva needs to be fired, its always the same idiots fighting nobodies every time. Fine for an undercard, but for a main event? lame.
