: '64 Dash Panel, what d'ya think?
Jr1964 May 29th, 06, 4:00 AM Sorry they're SOOO BIG. . .
I've been trying to put together a new/custom dash panel for my '64 Chevelle. I liked the
Covan's panel but didn't like the guage arangement, so I came up with this . . .Note the two
smallest black ones on each side were just to represent wiper/headlight switch and
lighter/ignition switch as on original. This arrangement gives room on the right for A/C vent and
stereo similar to original.
Using S/W guages, I can't decide on the BLACK or SILVER faces. . .

Rantheman May 29th, 06, 5:02 AM I like it better then the covans too I am aventualy going to do that but on my idea it is exactly like yours except i was going to put three gauges on the upper right then the deck below that and make the ridges so it looked origonal. but i like your idea looks good
Burbank SS May 29th, 06, 3:37 PM What color car or interior? I'm kind of partial to the white gauges, but I'm 48 and the dark gauges are getting a little hard to read!
I think with a dark interior I'd go with the dark gauges, otherwise the dash will contract too much with the interior. With a light interior, the whites.
Jr1964 May 29th, 06, 6:17 PM Thanks,
The interior will be black, with some areas like seats will have some grey. The dash
and windshield pillars have been painted black, along with an original black dash pad. Others
I've shown seem partial to the black since the silver (not white) face, silver bezel ring, and
silver panel seem to blend too much, black face gives a nice contrast.
maybe I'm anylizing too much.
I just thought having the guages closer to the speedo/tach would be
easier to glance, and still have the A/C vent and stereo in the panel similar to the original set up.
Any other opinions/suggestions out there??
Philip May 29th, 06, 8:08 PM JIm, I sent a PM.
70ElkySS May 29th, 06, 8:36 PM I'd vote for black - it's timeless. IMO white is starting to get like a lot of other things that are overdone like billet, braided stainless, red/blue AN fittings, etc.. (just my opinion FWIW)
Jr1964 May 29th, 06, 9:31 PM 70ElkySS, thanks for the input!:)
Phillip, thank you. I'll consider that as a possibility.:)

That looks damn good. Nice work. I shoulda done the same
Jr1964 May 30th, 06, 12:12 AM Brian, nice job! And you used silver faces, too!
That is what I plan to do, order a blank panel and add stewart warner guages instead.
Are you happy with the panel itself, good quality and all, any issues?
Noticed you put the ign.sw on the left below the headlight switch I take it, no need for wipers on this car.
Very nice, as is the rest of the car, Brian!
