Is the new chev paint Indigo blue metallic the same as 1970 dark blue metallic #28?
If so what's the code for the new indigo?
Thinking about painting my Chevelle this color!
thanks

39 is the color code for the new Indigo blue that they use on the new Silverado.

I don't think the color is the same as the 1970 color. It may be similar. The new Corvette used code 28 Navy blue in 2001 however.

Even in the case where the catolog paint code number (which is only nominally the actual paint code) is the same between cars built 30 or so years apart, that does NOT mean they are the same color.
Base coat / clear coat factory paint has only been with us since the '80's. Sometimes the modern bc/cc paint makes for a nicer color than the original Chevelle paint, which was somewhat flatter (less reflective) in appearance.
I kinda like the newer G.M. bright blue bc/cc in the "Malibu Blue" now known as "Space Blue" as a modern update to the Marina Blue of the '60's (yes, I know that Space Blue is a brighter blue).

The indigo blue and dark blue or fathom blue is not the same color. If you want to paint your car the dark blue like on the originals, go to your nearest paint supplier and give them your paint code #28 and they can match that color. Most of the paint companies like PPG and Dupont have changed the old lacquer formulas to base clear formulas. But because base clear is a much cleaner not as dirty appearing paint and has much more shine then lacquer, some color differnce can occur. A good painter can tint that paint to get a perfect match.
