Had a question forwarded to me from the Registry regarding Nugget Gold - for 1970 - I was asked if Nugget Gold and Autumn Gold are considered the same. Just wondering if anyone knows the answer for this one.

Don't know offhand but I've got the answer at home. I have a 1970 Dealer Sales Album and it has paint chips for all the colors. As I recall there were 3 golds in total across the model line. I'll list them with codes tonight.

According to the 70 paint chart, in the paint codes section of TC,

Nugget Gold Metallic 53

Medium Gold Metallic 55

Dark Gold Metallic 58

This really doesn't answer your question, but I guess there really wasn't an "Autumn Gold"

Silver and Jerry,

Thks for the info - I have the color charts. I'm pretty sure one of the three Gold’s was also referred as Autumn Gold - just not sure which one. I know there was a topic on it but couldn't find it.

Hopefully someone with an Autumn Gold Chevelle will chime in.

Thks

Rich

I think I found the info - after searching the Registry I noted the Chevelles listed as Autumn Gold were code #58 - Dark Gold Metallic.

Nugget gold is code #53.

So seems I have answered my own question.

I'm not sure if this clarifies the issue or confuses it...

In the 1970 Chevrolet Dealer Sales album there are three golds listed-

55 Champagne Gold (lightest)
58 Autumn Gold (darkest - slightly greenish cast?)
63 Desert Sand (medium)

There is no mention of 53 Nugget Gold for 1970.

Silver,

Thks for the info - here is the link for 1970 color chart that I have as well as posted here on TC - Also in my registry search for 70 there are Chevelles registered in each color with those color names and numbers.
http://www.chevelles.com/years/70/70paint.html

Nugget Gold Metallic 53

Medium Gold Metallic 55 (Champagne Gold)

Dark Gold Metallic 58 (Autumn Gold)

This should clarify the Gold issue - and for me too http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Interesting... there is definitely no 53 Nugget Gold in the 1970 Chevrolet Dealer Sales album. The chart you linked says GM color codes. Is it possible that it was a valid color for other GM brands in 1970 but not actually offered on a Chevrolet? Maybe someone here has one with the code on the cowl tag which would really clear it up.

Silver,

This is interesting - I did a search in the registry and found only one Chevelle with code 53 Nugget Gold registered - the car is a Canadian car, assembled in Ottawa. I also checked my U.S. color chart - found no # 53. Could be code 53 was only offered in Canada.

Anyone else with any knowledge on this one?

I stumbled on this while looking for a picture of a Gobi Beige car for someone. I think this may solve the mystery if it's right!

No 53 Nugget Gold for the 1970 Chevelle.

Yes - have seen that - still doesn't discount the registered Chevelle under code 53 and stated as Nugget Gold - it definately could have been a color for the Canadian Market. The color chart here on TC has the Nugget Gold and as stated there is a Chevelle registered in the Registry with it.

So - may be rare but it does exist.

Rich,

My convertible is an Autumn Gold (code 58) car. There is still some of the original color left in some areas. I have a few samples of color charts somewhere, most of them refer to the Autumn Gold as Dark Gold Metallic. I have some pics of an unrestored Autumn Gold car if you want me to post some up or email them to you.

thanks sir. i have it all tore apart and there is plenty of overspray. we have a mixing bank here at work. and the only thing that matches is 70 camaro gold code 53. i guess my uncle was right. he said that when he drove it with the window sticker it had camaro color on it. but he is color blind so what does he know. he he he. j/k:D everything is ready to paint except for body. i have it on a dolly it has about 2 hours of welding time for rust. which i will do myself since that is what i do. it only has some pin holes which i will bury with metal. a very solid car. i am growing tired and weiry. but almost ready to get busy.:boring:
