I am installing a new gas tank on my 1970 ss chevelle. The problem is that when I wrap the new straps around the gas tank, I can't get the bolts to start because the holes are not lined up. It seems like the gas tank is a little to wide. I guess I could bend the lip up on the gas tank to get the holes to line up. Any sugestions anyone?

Heres the easiest way I have found over the years,, go to the hardware store and get a set of 5 inch bolts threaded all the way,,, use those to get the straps drawn up, then you will be able to use the correct ones, one at a time. this works everytime, matter a fact I have used the same set of starter bolts 3 or 4 times :)

I kinda like the hard way...trying to hold up the tank in position while starting bolts that seem about a 1/2" too short.
I really enjoy all the cussing. ;) Better than therapy...
