: '70 Chevelle project setting since Katrina
jeff70 May 26th, 06, 8:47 AM I finally pulled the cover off, and pulled it out of the barn yesterday.
I haven't touched it since Katrina hit, it was in a paint booth at one of the local body shops when the storm change our little world, the body shop was leveled but the paint booth was spared, I lost a lot of trim parts under the debris of the body shop.
I had started the installation of a new wiring harness but just lost all interest. The engine hasn't been started since the wiring was pulled out for the new harness.
It has been hard to get the motivation going again, but thanks to this forum and seeing some pictures on here of some of the members projects, I am back at it again.
I loaded it on the trailer and hauled to a shop to complete the wiring, I think that if I hear it running, I'll be motivated to put the losses behind and get back on track.
Thanks guys :)
Jeff
ssal396 May 26th, 06, 9:25 AM That's good to hear.. Good luck with your project & I hope all is getting back to normal..

SS_Dave May 26th, 06, 10:13 AM Well, it seems things are getting back to normal down there, huh?
Keep at it.
I really enjoy just sitting there cracking a cold one and staring at it. :D
Everything I look at, I remember when I fixed this, sanded that, welded this.
I can go through 2 years of my life panel by panel. crack....

But things are far from normal after Katrina, my wifes home town of Biloxi is still a mess and our little town here has turn into a high crime area with a few thousand extra folks that seem to be staying here, and bringing some bad habbits with them.
I don't believe things will ever be the way it was before Katrina.
But life must go on :)
michael n mississippi May 26th, 06, 11:35 AM jeff i agree with you on the crime spree. i live east of laurel. a lot of the blame is placed on new orleans . but alot of the problems are also from the people that chase storms and other misfortunes for profit. they are so many thieves among us now. need any help with the ole car let me know! michael
00WS6TA May 26th, 06, 11:53 AM Getting back in to your Chevelle just might be the best medicine for you at this point! :)
Godspeed Jeff.

Thanks again guys,
I'm looking forward to getting back into the chevelle, I have the interior to install, (seats have been recovered already), I also have the 3" stainless MagnaFlow exhaust to be installed, I need to complete the installation of the Corvans dash as well.
It has been a while since I have posted on the forum and some may remember the paint job was a disappointment, and with the body shop wiped out I have had no luck getting any satisfaction.
I'll have to find someone else to color sand and buff out the paint, in fact it might have to be redone all together.
Michael,
You're probably right about some of the crime being some that are out to profit from the misfortunes of others, but some of the crime around here is obviously drug related and just plain trashy.
I hope to see you around sometime, maybe a car show.
Later, Jeff
OrrieG May 27th, 06, 1:46 AM OK guys, he won't ask but I will, does anyone have any spare trim for a 70? All I have is 64 stuff. Jeff post what you need and see if anyone has some good extras.
I know the feeling, sort of, I've never been through a hurricane and flood but business problems a few years ago kept me away from here for over a year, just couldn't get motivated either until I got other stuff turned around. Once you get started it will come back and we will be here to advise, support and help anyway we can. Patrick
troutdog May 27th, 06, 2:14 AM Jeff70 I know your pain..Look at my 67 pics are below..I live in Laurel MS michael of Mississippi...Katrina.........................well it's still hard to think of it.I had three on the house, one on my bike, two on 72 BMW 2002ti, and my 67 Malibu..........TOTALED. Patrick,
I had a new front chrome bumper (now twristed with cracks), the chrome trim around the drip rails and the chrome trim around the wheel wells on the fenders (pretty much bent beyond repair).
I am going to order new replacement parts, just doing some research on the best place to purchase these parts.
troutdog,
At least my '70 wasn't totaled. I was very lucky, I had more then a dozen trees down in my yard but only a little damage to one corner of my home.
Jeff
P.S.
I'm on my way to the Forest county muti-purpose center to the classic car and motor cycle show today (27-May-06), this should get me all worked up again :)
I love to see what everybody else is working on.
SweetShot May 27th, 06, 4:02 PM Let us know what parts you need Jeff....I know i will find some when I move and would love to send you anything if it helps!

Chucks68SS May 27th, 06, 6:09 PM Jeff, you guys in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area sure didn't get much news
coverage for what I'm told happened there. I use to live in Hattiesburg
until 81 and went back last spring and can't believe all the growth. I still
have family in the Ellisville area and that little town got slammed too.
Good luck on your Chevelle, anything I can help you find let me know.
Chuck
michael n mississippi May 28th, 06, 10:19 AM well chuck things were bad in the rual area where i live. i went 18 days without electricity. and $40,000 dollars worth of home damage. but i didnt have a boat i could pull behind me with all the looted stuff. so as you say there were areas other than new orleans that did catch some of the storm, that is news to many!
troutdog May 28th, 06, 1:18 PM Jeff70, Michael n mississippi how was it at the Forrest County muti-purpose center car show.I got up Sat and saw where Michael had said there was a show in Hat. I was putting in new windows tho..I bet it was fun
Chucks68SS May 28th, 06, 3:09 PM Michael, what side of Laurel are you on? You guys might know my in laws,
Sim (just passed away) was head football coach at Jones Jr College for
years, and the rest of the Cooley's (a bunch!). They had major roof damage
and just about every tree knocked down in their front yard.
Hopefully concentrating on the Chevelle will get your mind of the rest of
the situation---for at least a little while.
Chuck
troutdog May 28th, 06, 6:42 PM I went to school with many Cooley's Chuck tho I'm only 26.I went to school at NEJ.
Chucks68SS May 28th, 06, 8:44 PM Hey cool troutdog, you might know fred & simmie.
I had my 71 Chevelle when I first moved from Ohio to
Miss. back in 75. I really miss that car and always wanted
another, So that day has come and I'm a happy puppy.
