ive got a 66 chevelle with a 307 and 2 spd PG. the last few days ive been having some serious starting problems. earlier this week i went to start the car, after starting it and getting to my destination and it would not turn over, it would only make a clicking noise coming from the starter, i tried to jump it for the next half hour off my buddies car and it still wouldnt work. i left it in the lot over night and the next morning it started fine with a jump. Today i took her out again and when i went to leave my destination it wouldnt turn over again, but this time it wouldnt even click(there was power because the radio and lights worked). i then again went to jump it and it would only click even after letting it charge up for about 10-15 mins. i just left the car there and got a ride home for now but what do i do? ive never had this problem before. The starter is about a year old and the battery is like new along with the terminals and cables which are all conected fine. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a dead or dying battery. Take the battery in to an Autozone and have it checked. Even a newer battery can be bad especially if it is left in for any length of time in a discharged condition. If it is good put it on the charger overnight and give it a good full charge. Then take a look at your battery cables and make sure they are in good condition. The ground should be bolted to the engine block rather than the alternator bracket - it gives a better ground that way. Make sure the positive cable where it bolts to the starter has a good connection. Also make sure your connections at the battery are clean and tight - use a wire brush to clean them up. Sometimes those little clamp ends get bent and it's easier just to replace them - I think $5 for a pair at Autozone. If the battery and the connections are good I'd take the alternator in and have them check that. If that's not the problem you need to start looking at other issues like the starter or the solennoid, but chances are it's your battery or connections.

Sounds like you are not getting any power to the starter solinold. I have had this problem with a number of vehicles. Make sure you are getting power to the solinold With key off check continuity with between units and I believe you have a bad wire. Mine has always been a bad conection or solinold.Paitence pays off .
Next time, use a screwdriver and short out the 2 wires on the solenoid. To repair he solenoid remove from starter ,take cap off and flip copper plate and rotate bolt to make better contact

By your description of the problem, I would think that the solenoid is saying "SEE YA'!".Your starter may only be a year old but......depending on the rebuilder(assuming it's a rebuilt)that they may have merely "tested" the
solenoid and if it passed....cleaned up the outside of it and installed it.

i think its the solenoid (did i spell that right??). either that, or maybe your connections are bad, battery cable not tight enough (lights will work just fine, but the starter draws a lot of current and if that connection is loose it will be flaky), or the starter is getting too hot from driving

I would look to make sure you have a good ground, you mention they are new, but have you checked to make sure they are tight and have a bare metal contact. If this is doing it when it is warm, heat causes resistance, and resitance robs power. Double check all you connects no matter how new.
