Gents,
any of you have your whole body dipped for paint & rust removal during a "frame-off" restoration?
Where did you have it done at if so? Would you do it again? anything to watch out for?

Steve I dont know where to send it but I do know this. If you dip the car you remove all the paint and primer you get nothing but bare clean metal. The down side to that is-how do you get paint on the insides of the rockers and in the hidden areas, you cant. that leaves all that bare metal exposed to the elements tus causing a nice area for rust to from. Also you must neutralize the acid that they was to clean the metal, if you dont it can come back later down the road and cause paint problems. i would look for a place that after they dip the body in cleaning acid they dip it in a solution that neutralizes the acid. That solution also puts on a small protective film on the metal but it wont last like a good primer does.
Ive heard of one company in MICH I believe, after they dip the body they dip it in ecoat. Ecoat is that black primer that comes on factory parts and has great rust fighting properties, full of zinc. That is the way to go if I was going to dip a body. But as for like dipping a fender or door then just getting it dipped and not ecoated would be great as you can get all that bare metal covered in paint...Eric

Looks like a fantastic quality process!
....but NOT CHEAP!
Have to think about that one. They are in Michigan too, have to haul it up a few hours away from me.
Thanks!

Wow! That would be way nice for my car! All it is right now is a body shell! But so expensive....Probably just get it primed and painted conventionally, but if I had the bucks....

You can also have it plastic blasted. Works very well. Leaves the bondo roughed up and doesn't remove all your factory primer from the hidden spots.
