: Putting Body back on Frame

I'm getting ready to put the body back on my frame. I see in my assembly manual that there are alignment holes in the frame and body. Does anyone know the procedure to follow as far as these alignment holes go. I was going to just take measurements to be sure I was on the frame square and bolt it up. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.................Ward

Ward, I put my 66 body back on the frame late last year.

Here is my web page that may help http://members.home.net/larrymacdonald2/frame.htm

I held the upper cushion in place with the body bolts and left the lower cushion and washers off until the body was in place.

This made lining up very easy.

Good Luck

Were you able to use the original washers and sleeves (Usually rusty, pitted, etc), or did you buy new ones? Seems the rubber and polygraphite pieces are easy to get, but the metal pieces are harded to find except in certain kits.

I just measured from the pinch weld all around the body to frame, but I have not torqued yet. I was going to wait until the front clip is on.

I'm curious though, does my 70 have these alignment holes?

I am going back with new rubber bushings and all new hardware. I believe all GM A-bodies had the alignment holes. One is back where the frame narrows for the front mount on the lower rear control arms. I will look better in my manual. If you are interested I can try to scan for you. Let me know. Thanks for the help..........Ward

I do have the factory manual for my 70, so I can look for it. I guess it's in the frame or body section. Sorry for posting twice.

I'm still curious to find out what your alignment issue was and what did you mean by going back to rubber?

thanks

The original post was if anyone knew about the alignment holes that are in the frame and body to line them up when they are attached. I simply was stating to a respondent that I am replacing my old rubber body mounts with new rubber body mounts and hardware. All my suspension bushings are Polygraphite but I went with rubber for the body on the advice of a few people. The reason the body is off the frame is for it's restoration not because of any alignment problem. Hope this helps................Ward

Ward. The alingment holes you speak of are at the front frame ,where it kicks out next to the two body mount holes and at the rear coil spring mounting pad. I allinged my up with 3/4 in pipe and duck taped it in place
while I torqued down the body.
This was on A 64 Chevelle an 65 Elcamino
