At the top of my passenger door I have an area about 4" long where the weatherstrip doesn't mate well with the door opening and am getting a lot of wind noise. The weatherstrip is not adjustable - how to I get that to seal? Thanks!

i saw a segmant on this on horse power tv or on trucks not long ago. they used a piece of paper to slide between the weatherstrip and mating metal. where they had slack and the paper moved freely there was a gap.. to close it they just put some weatherstrip caulk under the weatherstrip already on the car almost like shimming in a new door or window... used it kinda like shims to shimm it up and bring it up against the metal..

if you look at the body service manual, you will see there are a number of adjustments that you can make to the window, after you remove the door panel. You can usually move it into the weatherstriping more. But it is a tricky, trial and error process. I have done it. Be patient, and you will get the window in the best position. First, be sure you have the door striker bolt set correctly, so the door and window are as far into the cavity as necessary. All of the above assumes a 2 door hardtop window. Once the window adjustment is done, and wind noise persists, I think the idea of caulk under the weatherstrip is great.

Rad - I saw the same HorsePower TV segment and got all excited because I thought I could do what they did. However, my weatherstrip is made differently and there is no way to put caulk under it to make it seal better.
bhawk - El Caminos have coupe type doors with a frame all around the window. My window seals to the door frame just fine after I replaced all the channel and fuzzies - the problem is where the door frame above the window seals to the door opening.

Sometimes you have to bend the window frame in a little to get it to seal.Put your knee up on the door on the inside and pull the top of the window frame in.Just remember a little goes a long way!

Ditto what William said about bending the window frame. I had the same problem on my '70 Elky pass door, and I told my body-friend about it. Door lines were all lined up nice. He just started pulling the window frame, and kept stopping to recheck. Situation solved, in about 5 minutes!

Thanks William and Hobart! When I first read the post, I thought you were nuts! Bend the window frame?!?!?!?!?! But you're right, I tried it and it worked! This forum is great - thanks guys!!!!
