I gotta get new front and rear bumpers for my 69 el_Camino. Who out there has bought reproductions and is pleased? What brand are they? Also, which ones to stay away from. Thanks in advance!

I bought a front bumper for my 70 Chevelle from Ausleys at car swap at Englishtown. Looked great for about 5 monthes, after that the chrome started to ware away under the headlights, leaving a copper color. Never used harsh abrasives, just lightly polished it after every wash with Mothers Crome Polish. IMO, shy away from Ausleys.

SSMatt, I doubt Ausley's DOES the repop bumpers themselves. They just sell them to people who do not want to rechrome OEM units.

So, I don't think that would be a reason to stay away from Ausley's in general.

djw69elky ,
I think you'll find that repop bumpers tend to show thru or rust pretty quickly.

Advise: Find a couple straight cores (if they have to straighten it costs more), and go the rechrome route. It may cost a little more, but I have seen more problems with some Boyz repop chrome bumpers than I have with rechrome OEM units.

Oh, the better chrome final finish, the more $$ it costs. So you need to decide show or just go quality.

SSMatt,
I had the same problem with my front bumper on my 70 that I purchased from "The Boyz". That, I would expect. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif It took about a year, though, in my case. . But even the repros are doing that? Unreal.

1967 Bumper, thrashed, bent, torn, you name it. Took to local chrome shop, repaired (tears fixed, straightened, etc.), re-chromed, has two years of daily driving and still looks great.

That *is* an endorsement for re-chroming.

I got a show chrome bumper for my 67 5 years ago Paid 300.00 bucks and to this day it's perfect. It's the only way to go. After market is jip junk. I buy all my parts from a guy in Hazelton PA. It's great to hold the part in you'r hand before you buy it. Original Parts Group never let me down either except for the 10 dollar shipping tags they put on everything.

Brenden,

Would that be Northeast Chevelle? I go there too. Love seeing what im buying before handing over the cash but love even more that I don't have to pay shipping! It's nice to know im helping out a small business man instead of a big company too.
