I have a stock 1968 396/325 that has been bored .30 over I don't know the details of the engine components, but judging from the way it runs, it's fairly stock. I do have comp headers on it, but other that that it's fairly stock.

I want to go to a aluminum intake and spreadbore carb, but I'm not sure what the best combination is that will give great performance and still fit under the stock hood.

I also don't know if I should go with vacuum or mechanical secondaries. Anyone have any ideas for what combo will be the best?

Thanks!

If you want mechanical secondaries, a Q-jet will work just fine on a Performer manifold.

Fwiw, a Q-Jet has mechanical secondaries, BUT the top butterflys are vacuum actuated so that it doesn't bog when they open at speed when they are set correctly.

Something like a Holley double-pumper has true mechanical secondaris..
