Hello, I was sent over here from the Team Camaro site in hopes of finding the man who built this Ultradyne cam. Its in a 385 SBC that was built about 8 years ago. It has not been started. I was told it was a Solid Roller with a tight lash. I have no cam card and would like to get all the specs on it so that I can get it running. I pulled these numbers from the cam.
278 290 RI0 "or" RO
34 32
F6627
930
Thanks!

You came to the right place. Harold usually gets on-line pretty late but he'll see your post eventually and if the past is any indication, he will be more than happy to give you all the info you want.

BTW it looks like you have a roller cam 278int 290exh advertised on a 110LSA. Harold can tell you more though.

Troy.

Thanks Troy!
My biggest concern is the valve lash. This was all set and checked 8 years ago but the stud girdle and locks were borrowed just after it was built. Its been sitting on a stand ever since. Its now in the car and waiting to come alive.

Dan,

That is one of the most popular SBC street cams UltraDyne ever made, and the smallest, too.
SB278/290R10---278/290@.020---242/254@.050---.556"/.556" valve lilft,
110 LSA, int on 106* ATDC ICL.
Cam timing at .020" is IVO 32* BTDC IVC 66* ABDC EVO 80* BBDC EVC 30* ATDC.
Valve lash HOT is .022"/.022", but the adjustment range is from .016" to .030".
The 290 cam finished the 24 Hours of LeMans in 2 Camaros, early 1980s. They wasted several Chevy transmissions, but ZERO valve springs....
They were 11:1 355s, with 510 BHP at 7000.
Your cam in a low-compression (9.3:1) 355 made about 440+ BHP at 6200 on ProMotor Engineering's dyno, a very conservative dyno.
Go have fun!!

For those interested in other UltraDyne cams, you may want to visit the following site:

web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ultradyne.com

It contains the UltraDyne web site that I maintained from Mar 3rd, 2000, to Aug 7th, 2003. It also has the Bullet/UltraDyne web site on it, but that website contains no information about UltraDyne cams.
The old UltraDyne site has lifts, durations, LSAs, as well as master lists. There is no vavle timing numbers given, unforturnately.
I hope this helps some of you out.....

I HAVE THIS IN MY 505 STROKER I JUST BUILT, SOUNDS AWSOME, BUT THE CAM CARD DOES'NT TELL ME THE OPERATING RANGE OF THIS CAM, CAN YOU TELL ME THE OPERATING RANGE OF THIS CAM ?
Steve,
If I read the chart correctly, in your 505 STROKER, the power range is probably about 4000+ -to- 7500 RPM.
http://web.archive.org/web/20030326175204/http://www.ultradyne.com/396-454_chevrolet_v-8_street,_bracket_&_class_roller_cams.htm

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS = 427-454 car with 4-speed. Smooth at 8000+.
313/324 = DURATION AT SEAT IN./EX.
110 = LSA
.725/.725 = LIFT
282/292 = DURATION AT .050" IN./EX.

POWER RANGE = 5000-RPM -thru- 8000-RPM

The .200 duration numbers =197/203 .......

RE: UltraDyne cam, by UDHarold » Nov.19,2006

A very short "UDHarold history" for those interested:
1972) --Started designing cams free-lance for Reed, Isky, Engle, and Norris. Did the 1974 Funny Car Championship cam for Norris and Shirl Greer, the 1975 Daytona 500 winner for Reed and Benny Parsons.
1974) --August, started designing for General Kinetics, worked with Grumpy Jenkins for his 1976 Pro-Stock championship.
1977) --January, started at the new Competition Cams. It was formed in 1976 by some of the owners of Cam Dynamics. While at Comp Cams, I designed the 268 HE family, among others.
1980) --I left Comp Cams and started UltraDyne. The company was very successful throughtout the 1980's & 90's. In January 2001, my work force was hired by another cam company, and UD was left with me and 2 others.
2003) --I went to work for Lunati, where I designed all the VooDoo cams for them. They fired me on Sept 16th, 2005, with me making too much money.
2006) --January, I started working for Custom Camshaft Company. I still live and work here in Senatobia, Miss.
If I can do anything for you, my number is 662-301-1245. UDHarold Feb.22,2005

Do not enter the ultradyne.com in Google, unless you want to go to Bulletcams.com......
