I have noticed over the years many '68-'72 Elkys with one-color tailgates, some with a dark stripe connecting the taillights and some with chrome trim and some just plain. What would a stock '68SS have come with? I think the dark stripe looks badass but I want my new tailgate to look original too.

SS should have the black stripe & chrome trim between the tail lights across the tailgate.

Mine originally had the fake wood sticker. I prefer the tailgate in solid color. Especially on the 68.

I just painted on a gloss black stripe from taillight to taillight. Unfortunately, my new tailgate did NOT come with the holes drilled for the SS396 emblem in the center so I am going to have to do that yet. Anyone know where I can get the top molding for the tailgate?
