View Full Version : PST front end kits, good quality?
71Avido May 22nd, 06, 8:31 PM Right now I have the stock suspension including 36 year old rubber bushings.
Its time to upgrade so Ive been thinking about the PST front end kit, their higher priced one that includes nearly everything.
Whats the verdict on these parts?
RAMBO May 22nd, 06, 8:40 PM I've used their "super" kits on 3 different cars, all have turned out very nice, and have had many miles put on them with no problems.
My most recent experience, i also ordered one of their G-max 1 1/4" swaybars along with the front end kit, which is a nice peice, but the mounting brackets required elongating the holes. No big deal, but was something i did have to do out of the ordinary.
Chevyboy_0 May 22nd, 06, 9:30 PM I haven't ordered anything from PST but instaled new bushings on my 70 from Energy Suspension and Moog, both of which I got the parts from True Connections, the Energy stuff stiffened the ride ALOT which is what I was looking Forward too.
then again this is just my 2 cents
fast71ss May 22nd, 06, 11:43 PM Two thumbs up on PST kits! They even worked with me to get the parts interchange figured out for my tall spindle swap.
71Avido May 23rd, 06, 5:31 PM OK thats good news to hear, now let me ask you this.
Will these bushings in an otherwise stock suspension(springs/shocks excluded)
Be enough to handle a 496?

Depends what you plan on doing with it. If you plan on autocrossing the car, then you probably don't want to go with stock stuff and need to get low deflection poly or delrin bushings.
If you just plan on driving it normally, and jumping on it now and then, then i would think stock rubber stuff would be fine.

But I kinda mis-worded my question what I ment was
Will the rest of the components be up to snuff, control arms, sway bar ect.
The car will be street/strip emphasis on street.
Not a lot of high speed cornering and the like involved but it would be good to know that I could do it if need be.
Derek69SS May 23rd, 06, 7:07 PM I used a PST rubber front end kit, and had no problems with it... 4 years later, after 20,000 miles, I upgraded and removed it all. Everything still looked OK, and the ball-joints and tie-rod ends still feel tight.
I have, however, heard of others having problems with the hard-parts from PST, such as the ball-joints.
Good experiences here, but there have been some complaints... just an FYI, I'm sure the same could be said about a lot of companies.
Andy69 May 23rd, 06, 10:34 PM I bought one in 98 with the polygraphite bushings. Still feels like new. The polygraphite is black and doesn't squeak, either.

johns71chevelle May 23rd, 06, 11:55 PM i put an energy suspension kit with moog parts almost 8 years ago...lol that was only 5k miles ago , but i had a tremendous difference in handling, no squeaks no rattles, its a beautiful thing...
I have used the PST kits before and was happy with them. Most recently, I re-built the front end of my 71 Nova and did some more checking around. I ended up using PSC (performancesuspension.com) becasue I felt the kits from PSC were more complete. They cost about $50 more, but included such things as BOTH inner and outer tie rods, whereas PST only has the outers, and idle arm.
Parts from both companies are quality parts. When I got my PST parts before, all hard parts were MOOG and bushings were polygraphite. My latest parts from PSC were all McQuay-Norris hard parts and energy suspension bushings.
Everything was great. Even the sway bar was a nice powder-coated Hellwig unit!
Bottom line is I don't think you could go wrong with either company, but I'd have to give a slight edge to PSC.
Good luck,
Bill C.
John D May 24th, 06, 5:29 PM Ordered a "front-end rebuild in a box" from PST 2 years ago. Chose their polygraphite stuff, all ends, sleeves, center link, idler, the works.
Everything fit perfectly. The only minor complaint was they didn't supply (what I felt) enough or large enough silicone "goo" packets for the bushings.
